Walter "Wally" Hunter

Nov 10, 1931 – Nov 30, 2013

It is with much sadness we announce the sudden passing of Walter after a brief illness. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 25 years, Audrey. Also in mourning are his children; Lindsay (Ron), David, Graham (Synthia), Elizabeth (Fraser), Diane (Bill), Carole (Calvin), Kevin and eight grandchildren. Wally is survived by one brother, Tommy (Pam), of Royston, England. Wally was born and grew up in Airdrie, Scotland.  He spent many years working in the Calgary “oilpatch”, was a member of the Calgary Burns Club singers, an avid golfer and curler. He was known and loved by many who admired his zest for life and pride in his family. Wally was predeceased by his first wife, Myra in 1986. A Celebration of Life will be held at the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 288, 508 3rd Ave. SE, Airdrie on Saturday, Dec. 7th at 2:00pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Wally’s name to: The Poppy Fund, Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 288, 508 3rd Ave. SE, Airdrie, T4B 2C2.

It was a very sad day for Shelley & I to see that Wally passed away in the Airdrie Echo. Wally was a wonderful man. He had such a wonderful laugh. Always happy and treated us as a true friend. Any time we were at Woodside Golf Course he always made sure to make us feel welcome. You were a true friend Wally to which we are so thankful you were in our lives. My heartfelt condolensces on Wally's passing. When I think of Woodside he is one of the first names I think of. He was the kind of person that you looked forward to running into when you were there. He was a wonderful person and I am better for having known him. ~ BJ McElligott
