Captain David Gillis

December 1944 – May 2023

It is with profound sadness Dave took his final flight West into heaven surrounded in love and with his family.

He will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered by his wife and soulmate “Doe” Doreen, daughters Kristin, Jennifer (Duane), and Paula (Don); his adored grandchildren Trinity, Peyton, Jacek, Danika, and Adalyn; his sisters Judy (Al) and Jan; extended family, nieces and nephews and lifelong friends.

Dave cared about his community, in which he and his family have resided for nearly 50 years, and his involvement speaks volumes of his character: Langley YM/YWCA (Board Member), Langley Power & Sail Squadron (instructor and a term as Commander), Langley Amateur Radio Club (instructor), Langley Emergency Services, Langley City Advisory Planning Council, five years with the Provincial Emergency Program and Surrey Amateur Radio Club.

He was fondly known as “Gadget Gillis” due to his accumulation of tools, etc. for the many hobbies he enjoyed from fly-tying, fishing, photography, welding, woodworking, computer software programming, “ham” radio, boating, RVing…the list is endless of what he was capable of.

Dave retired his wings after 38 years in the air and will be remembered as a skilled pilot and flight simulation trainer.  He loved his 31-year career as an international commercial airline pilot with CP Air->Air Canada.

The family extends their gratitude to the doctors, nurses and healthcare providers who cared for Dave at Langley Memorial Hospital both in the ER and in 203 2S and subsequently, the staff at Morgan Place who welcomed and cared for Dave in “Cobden”.

Dave requested no service but, if you wish to make a donation to a charity of your choice, or to the Parkinson Society of British Columbia (parkinson.bc.ca) in Dave’s memory, his family would greatly appreciate that.
