Marian Zeron passed away peacefully on December 17th, 2024 at Melville Hospice in Surrey, B.C. with family at her side. Marian was born in Consul, Saskatchewan to Gordon and Ruby McMillan (Tooke). The prairie dustbowl of the 1930s precipitated her parents and siblings - Mac, Jean, Ron, and Lois - to move to Rolling Hills, Alberta in 1939. After completing school, Marian moved to Edmonton in 1945, where she was employed at Woodwards Department Store for 16 years. Marian married Ernie Zeron in 1955, and after time in Edmonton, Whitecourt, Kelowna, and Nanaimo, eventually settled in South Surrey in 1994.
Following Ernie’s death in 1999, Marian continued to travel to Alberta and the East Coast to vacation and visit family, and was a significant presence in the lives of her many nieces and nephews. Her recollections of family, growing up on the prairies, and coming of age in mid-century provided a valuable connection between generations, and her remarkable memory, strong business acumen, and interest in current events endured to her final days. Marian will be remembered for her kindness, sense of humour, generosity, and so much more, and will be deeply missed by family, friends, and neighbours.
Marian did not wish a service, and her ashes will be interred next to Ernie at Maple Ridge Cemetery. Special thanks to staff and volunteers at Melville House Hospice and Alternatives Funeral and Cremation Services.
May the road rise up to meet you.
May the wind always be at your back.
May the sun be warm upon your face,
The rains fall soft upon your path
Until we meet again.
