WRIGHT, Murray Charles

Murray Wright went to be with his Lord and Saviour on Monday, January 42016 at the age of 86 years at the Carewest Sarcee Hospice in Calgary. Murray is lovingly remembered by his son, Garry (Lynn) Wright; daughter, Janice (Mark) Tanner; son, Murray (Teena) Wright; 9 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; and many other family and friends. He was predeceased by his wife, Marjorie Wright; his daughter, Deborah-May Emmett; brothers, Chester and Donald Wright; and many other beloved family members. Murray was active in the oil and gas industry in Alberta. He was instrumental in developing safety protocols for the handling of sour gas. He was always the go-to guy when it came to safety. His motto was “accidents don’t just happen, they’re caused.”

A viewing will be held at Alternatives Funeral and Cremation Services, 12 East Lake Way NE, Airdrie, AB on Monday, January 11, 2016 from 7:00 – 9:00 pm.

A Graveside Service will be held at the Gadsby Cemetery on Tuesday, January 12, 2016 at noon.

Messages of Condolence

There were four Wright brother's born of Edgar Clifford Wright and Olive May Wright. (nee Bullerwell) As the youngest of these children I was always treated well by Murray. I remember Murray putting me on the handlebars of his bike and taking me a few miles to a family dinner I would otherwise have missed out on. I was perhaps 4 or 5 years of age. I admired the many skills he developed throughout his life. Murray took automotives at Western Canada High School on 17th Ave. West in Calgary. Several years later when I enrolled in the same class, the teacher Mr. Ray Troop made me shop foreman of the class. Thinking a brother of Murray Wright would also excel in this class. I was honored. So much good to reflect on. My wife Geraldene and I visited with Murray on a regular basis while he, Marjorie and our brother Don were all in Bethany Care Centre. We discussed so much together. On our last visit we hugged and expressed our love for each other. My condolences to his children of whom Murray was so proud. May God bless each of them. Norman and Geraldene Wright.

My condolence to the Wright family on Murray’s passing. I had the privilege of being taught by son Garry at Olds College in 1988 and then by Murray at SAIT in 1989 – 1990. I learned of his passing through former classmates; he is still fondly remembered by those he taught many years ago. Keith Walline

Murray inspired me to be the best I could possibly be as a gas plant operator and power engineer. All of the advice Murray gave us students I still take a step back and follow to this day when dealing with sour gas. You were a tremendous asset to the industry, Murray! You will be missed. Condolences to your family. I greatly enjoyed the brief time we spent together at RDC.
