Margaret Patricia Wood “Pat”(nee Carter)
March 14, 1933: Whitewood,SK
July 13, 2013: Calgary, AB
It is with profound sadness that we mark the passing of our beloved Pat. She died as she lived surrounded by her loving family. Left behind to mourn her are George Wood, her husband of 58 years; her daughters Jan (Brian), Alison (David) and Judy (Jamie); her grandchildren Shayna, Anielle, Kelsey, Logan, Joel, Joshua and Jared; her sister Joan Ferguson and her long-time friend, “Gramma” Grace Jensen as well as many nieces, nephews and a multitude of friends, old and new. Pat entered every room with a smile, an open heart and a willingness to lighten the load of others. Her loving disposition lead her naturally into the profession of nursing. She graduated from the Regina Grey Nuns Hospital in 1955. She worked at the Grey Nuns Hospital, the Calgary General and the Winnipeg Children’s Hospital before returning to Calgary to raise her three girls. She later returned to nursing at the Holy Cross Hospital (as Nursing Unit Supervisor on Y2 and later with the Family Medicine Clinic) as well as in private practice with Dr. Douglas Cassidy. In retirement she found the greatest enjoyment spending time with her children, grandchildren, extended family and friends. She found a new community and new vigour with the ladies of the “Y” Gentle Fitness class. She enjoyed “going for a bean” in the afternoon with George as well as their nightly competitions as co-contestants on Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune. There was never a shop she could avoid nor a chocolate she could refuse though for Pat, shopping was more entertaining when done for others and chocolate was best enjoyed when shared. Her days were filled living for others and now our days are emptier living without her. A Celebration of Life is to be held at the Silver Springs Golf and Country Club (1600 Varsity Estates Drive, NW, Calgary) on Friday, July 19 at 1:00 pm with an informal gathering to continue until 4:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Tom Baker Cancer Centre c/o The Alberta Cancer Foundation at albertacancer.ca/memorial.
