WILSON, Mervin T.
‘Family is where your story begins…’
Mervin T. Wilson was born July 22, 1918 to Harry and Susie, into a young home filled with love and laughter. He was 13, when his Dad was killed in an encounter with a bull. Mervin quit school to help support his Mom and family. Farming and family remained his focus throughout his life. He farmed in Washington, Vermilion, Cochrane, and Airdrie. Mervin chose Margaret Lois Doyle as his partner in marriage, music, farming, parenting, community, and in 1947 he and Mum found their own farm in Rosebud. They participated in all parts of community life with neighbors and friends for 50 years. As Dad, Papa, and Uncle, his arms carried children, grand-children, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He showed all of them the charms of the farm! As Mr. Wilson, he drove school bus for 35 years. He loved horses, music, kids AND driving. With Mum he drove hundreds of thousands of motorhome miles … Tuktoyaktuk to Texas and coast to coast. Mervin lived with integrity and hard work. Playing mandolin or guitar along with Mum at the piano was his best favorite thing. He believed in God as meaning, purpose, and a safe place to trust.
Mervin left us peacefully in his own home on Thursday, March 10, 2016. Missing him dearly are our immediate and extended families of kids, grandkids, great grandkids, nieces, nephews & cousins along with ‘his kids’, Marilyn (Paul Dyck), Lenore (Peter Pfiffig), Corinne – who pre-deceased Mervin (Don Morris), Gerald, Laverne Cressman (Ruth Andres) and Sharlane Cressman (Clive Donaldson). At this time we also miss Mum/Auntie/Margaret and our sister Corinne, who in 2008 and 1992, respectively, left us all too soon.
In honor of Mervin’s life, donations are welcome to Calgary Meals on Wheels, 5759 80 Avenue SE, Calgary, AB T2C 4S6 or a charity of your choice.
