WEISS, Norma Ruth
September 23, 1923 – May 2, 2014
Norma Ruth was born on a farm east of Airdrie, child of Oliver and Louise (Oberholtzer) Eby. Her sister Vera, younger by three years, was her life-long soulmate. She attended Glen Leven School, ¼ mile from her home. Ruth was blessed with a great intelligence and wonderful memory and completed her education in Crescent Heights H.S., Calgary. Soon after, Walter Weiss arrived at the farm as a hired man and secured the heart of Ruth forever. With WWII threatening, Walter and Ruth were married on August 11, 1941. Linda Ruth was born September 6, 1942 and Walter was soon shipped overseas returning 3 years later. In 1945 they started farming ½ mile from Ruth’s home, where they worked together for 27 years. Tilda Louise was born October 15, 1950. These years were filled with meals lovingly prepared; garden growing; selling chickens, cream and eggs; hauling grain; raising family and church activities. Ruth loved to dance and was an accomplished curler. Then began their years of travel trailering settling in Mesa, Arizona for winters where friends filled Ruth’s days with activities & shuffleboard and more delicious meals were prepared. In 1995 Ruth & Walter settled down in Airdrie in a home on the golf course and Ruth began caring for Walter and loving the visits from her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, remembering ALL their birthdays with cards and phone calls, even in her last month. Walter and Ruth celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary in 2011 and soon after moved into a senior’s residence, Cedarwood Station, where Walter passed in December 2011 and Ruth continued to receive wonderful care and kindness. Ruth’s heart never recovered from losing Walter and although she celebrated her 90th birthday in 2013, poor health and brittle bones plagued her final years. With great peace Ruth finally passed from this world falling asleep gently in her Savior’s Arms and with gratefulness we say “till we meet again”. Lovingly remembered by daughters, Linda (Gerald) Gatez and Tilda Campbell; grandchildren, Blaine (Laura) Gatez, Lana (Peter) Cissell, Jennifer Preeper, Jeferson Cuming and Danny(Catherine) Campbell; and great-grandchildren, Emily, Madison, Carter, Justin, Hailey and Sarah; as well as sister, Vera Hausauer; brother-in-law, Archie (Jean) Weiss and sister-in-law, Betty Weiss. A Private Family Inurnment will follow at a later date.
