Larry Weare left this earth on Friday March 17, 2023 surrounded by love.
Larry was a devoted soulmate to Kirsti (nee Chaykoski) and proud, doting father to Sydney (Mitch), Haley and Braden. A golden boy to his parents, Robert and Eleanor Weare, handsome son-in-law to Karen Markusson, annoying brother to Susan, and smart-assed brother-in-law to Curtis and Blair (Lana) and favorite uncle to Chelsea, Brett, Talia and Kahra. Larry was also cherished by many aunts, uncles and cousins in the Chaykoski, Markusson, Weare and Young families.
Larry grew up and spent most of his time in Regina and met many friends along the way. He met Kirsti in 1987 and they were married in 1995 – Larry was obviously testing Kirsti to make sure she could handle “all of him.” A few years after she gave in, they were blessed with their first child Sydney. Along followed Haley and then Braden to complete their family. Larry loved his family and he was a family man at heart – they were the most important thing in his life.
Larry was also a friend to many – way too many to name. Larry always brought comedy and fun to any visit or event. Larry was always ready with a dry remark. He made us laugh on a daily basis. He was the kind of guy who sat back and let others take the limelight but no matter who was on the stage, his smile and charm always stole the show.
He worked hard to provide for his family. Larry was employed at Advance Engineered Products Group for almost 30 years. He enjoyed taking care of his yard and helping Kirsti with all of the plants. Their yard in the summer is a beautiful representation of their love and Larry’s attention to detail and I know Larry will be keeping an eye on it from above.
Larry loved camping (maybe not cleaning the septic after…lol) but he loved downtime and spending quality time with his friends and family. It didn’t have to be a major destination – Larry could make a fun time happen anywhere. Cuba, Mexico, Nashville, Cypress Hills, Edmonton, Calgary, an outdoor deck or bar somewhere - even a slough at “Done-it” Park, Avonlea, SK was fun if Larry was there.
Even though Larry received a devastating cancer diagnosis at the young age of 55, he continued to “live” and go out on his terms – #17 was always the fighting kind. Larry lived a life that was full to the brim with so much more than could ever be measured by our time on this earth. He touched many lives and will live on in the hearts of all those who knew and loved him. We are comforted knowing that in his last months, he was able to have many cherished visits with family and friends.
Larry loved sports, especially hockey. He was an avid Winnipeg Jets fan and coach to Braden and his buddies for many years. We strongly encourage you to wear your favorite hockey jersey, football jersey, baseball jersey or golf shirt. Let’s fill the room with brightness as our friend, teammate and coach Larry did.
Larry received many blood donations during his last months. Even in the hospital, he talked about giving back and donating his own blood. If friends so desire to honor Larry, we encourage you to give a blood donation to Canadian Blood Services in his memory or donate a blanket to Palliative Care at the Pasqua Hospital.
Keep Larry in your heart. Remember him, his wonderful smile and how he made you feel. Please raise a glass to him, cheer on your favorite sports team, enjoy your favorite sweet treat, or spend a little extra time with those who mean the most to you.
“What you leave behind is not what is engraved in stone monuments, but what is woven into the lives of others.” - Pericles
