Mary Margaret Elizabeth Walushka

Surrounded by family and in the comfort of nurses and staff at Lacombe Continuing Care, Mary’s life journey came to a peaceful end on September 25, 2011 at the age of 86 years. Mary was born on June 22, 1925 and was the oldest of three children.

She was predeceased by her parents Nick and Helen Kurczaba and her sister, Karol Hansen. Left to cherish her memory are, husband Al Walushka, son Glen Walushka and daughters Tricia (Brian) Grose, Lynda (Daryl) Hand, Anne Peck and brother Mike (Olga) Kurczaba. As well as ten grandchildren Kurt Walushka, Mark (Jackie) Walushka, Lindsay (Denis) Charbonneau; Christopher Grose, Cory Grose; Kyle Hand, Nicole Hand, Michelle Hand; Erin Peck and Myles Peck. Mary also has 4 great-grandchildren Kohl Walushka, Brianna Walushka; Jace Walushka and Marc Andre Charbonneau, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Service honouring Mary’s Life will be held at St. Andrew’s United Church, 5226 – 51 Avenue, Lacombe, Alberta on Wednesday, September 28, 2011 at 2:00pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made directly to: CNIB, #4, 5015 - 48 Street, Red Deer AB, T4N 1S9 or at www.cnib.ca.

Dear Al, Glen, Tricia - My, it has been years and years since I have seen you all. I certainly had no problem recognizing Mary from her photo - still could see that lovely kind look in her face. Anne - we are so sorry to hear of the loss of your Mother. Brent's wife Sue and I had many good visis with her when we were working, and after I retired Mary would come to the lobby and visit with me when I was volunteering. God bless you and your family. Hugs - the Sage family.

To the Walushka family: Joan and I want to express our heartfelt sympathy to you on the death of Mary. I first knew Mary at the Lacombe Research Station many years ago where she stood out for her friendly and helpful nature She was so well loved by all the staff and it was sad to have her leave us. We next came into close contact with Mary in the Lacombe Extended Care Facility where she had a room next to Joan`s room. Here Joan was able to enjoy her company for but only a brief time.
