Walter Verwoerd

It is with heavy hearts we announce the sudden, peaceful death of Walter Marinus Verwoerd, who went to be with his Lord and Saviour on November 7th in his 92nd year. He was born in Boskoop, the Netherlands and immigrated to Canada in 1954. He married Sylvia Westerhof in April 1957 and they made their home in New Westminster. They then moved to Burnaby in 1964, and Maple Ridge in 1996.
Walter was predeceased by his parents Jan and Maria Verwoerd; wife Sylvia (nee Westerhof) of 67 years; brothers Cor, John and Henk and granddaughter Kendra.
Survived by his children: John (Pat) Verwoerd, Debbie (Doug) Schauer, Rick Verwoerd, Cindy (Bert) VandeRiet.
Also survived by 14 grandchildren: Dawn (Ed), Maria (Joy), Tyler (Tanya), Janna (Dave), Gerry, John (Aida), Sophia (Max), William (Dominique), Danniel, Lance (Alea), Gary, Martina, Julia and Tessa; 22 great grandchildren: Jolene, Eddy, Glen, Carol, Isaiah, Nyomi (Ben), Anaiya, Olivia (Clayton), Gloriana, Jack, Drew, Alina, Felix, Theo, Ellie, Alexis, Callum, Owen, Jordyn, Grace, Dylan and Kaitlyn; plus 5 great-great grandchildren: Atlas, Selah, Ruth, Houston and Baylee.
Walter is survived by four sisters: Lien Breedveld, Deb Cormick, Marian Onderwater, and Hetty Verwoerd, two Brothers: Len (Nola) and Harry (Margaret) as well as two Sister-in-laws: Helen and Rita.
There will be a Memorial on Tuesday, November 18th at 2:00 p.m. at the New Westminster Christian Reformed Church, 8255 13th Avenue, Burnaby, B.C. V3N 2G6.
