January 16, 1940 – March 27, 2026
Walter Reinhold Lutz passed away on March 27, 2026, surrounded by family. Born near Bruce, AB, Walter was a dedicated cattle and grain farmer and active in his community, serving the Bruce Stampede, Holden 4-H Beef Club, and the Beaver Arts Society.
Following the passing of his first wife, Inez, in 1988, Walter married Jean Starky (née MacLeod) and later moved to Coquitlam, BC. There, he became a beloved neighbour and member of the Coquitlam Chorale. Walter loved welcoming visitors to his ranch cabin near Clinton in the summers, traveling to Kauai each winter, and finding joy in life's simple rhythms: tinkering in his garage, sharing homemade jam and cookies, and telling a good story.
Walter is survived by his wife Jeanie, children Dale, Joyce, David, Michèle, and Sheena; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and sister Alice. He was predeceased by his first wife Inez, parents Reinhold and Hilda, sister Gertrude, and brother Ben.
A Celebration of Life will be held in Tofield, Alberta on May 9 at 11:00 AM. To honour Walter's love of Kauai, guests are encouraged to wear Hawaiian shirts and jeans.
