William Wallace

Bill was born to Peter & Mabel Wallace in 1936 in Chilliwack B.C.

Raised alongside older brother Bob on the family farm on Sumas Prairie, Bill was instilled with a hard work ethic, integrity and a firm sense of responsibility.

It was in 1950 at a 4H Club event that Bill first met Sharon Rottluff. Five years later the young couple were married, a union that would come to last 65 yrs. Bill was chosen from his graduating class in 1954 to start work with the Royal Bank and after short stays in Vancouver where daughter Patricia was born, and Langley where son Bill Jr. was born Bill was transferred to White Rock. Bill & Sharon decided quite quickly that White Rock was the place to raise their family and with the birth of Dion in 1961 and Paisley in 1968 the family portrait was completed. Shortly thereafter Bill obtained his Real Estate License and thus a new chapter began.

1979 – 1994 saw eight grandchildren added to the Clan. Andrew, Matthew & Ian (Patricia), Jessica & Megan (Bill Jr.) and John, Courtney & Martin (Paisley) and of course some years later, the five great grandchildren, Cody (Jessica), Caleb & Matteo (Megan), Cordelia (Courtney) and Charlie (Ian)

After 60 yrs. of community involvement, the friendships, memories, experiences and connections are beyond numerous. During those years Bill’s time was always divided between work, family, and a commitment to serve the community that had so warmly embraced him and his young family. Though Bill was always busy with various community projects he found the time to attend activities his grandchildren participated in. Sports games, parades and school concerts all made the list. After hanging up the Bagpipes following a number of years in the Legion Pipe Band Bill picked up some new hobbies. When he found some rare spare time he enjoyed fishing, be it in the Little Campbell, the Nicomekl or out in the “Salt Chuck”. Golfing also became a hobby and Bill enjoyed many a round on local courses.

In 2018 when Bill was named “White Rock’s Outstanding Canadian on the Peninsula” the Family gathered round. A good chuckle was shared over the fact that barely half the clubs, organizations, service groups etc. that he had served with could fit on the screen! To name a few: The Kinsman & Lions Clubs, Little League, Scouts Canada, Sea Festival and Sand Castle Competition Committees, White Rock Curling Club, White Rock Lawn Bowling Club, and the Sunnyside Villas Society.

Bill’s wit and ability to tell a story or turn a phrase was a source of great humor to those who knew him and due to this gift, he was called upon to Emcee many an event.

Bill will be greatly missed by his loving wife of 65 yrs. Sharon, his family & friends and an always grateful community.
