With great sadness we announce John A Volk, 85 years old, of Regina, SK passed away on Wednesday December 6, 2023.
John was born on a farm in Mutrie, SK and the family lived there until the passing of Jacob Volk, John’s Father in 1946. While growing up the family moved to MacLean, then to Regina. John was unhappy in the City, so he went to live with his Sister Kate and Brother-In-Law Leonard on the farm where he was a farmhand and raised cattle. When he became an adult ,he headed to Regina where he got a job at Queen City Glass. He met Joyce and in 1963 they were married. They bought their home the same year and Lori was born in 1964. Cindy followed in 1967.
John enjoyed having company and playing cards with friends and relatives. He truly enjoyed life, laughing, telling jokes, dancing (a lot of polka parties) and enjoying the odd Rye and coke or a few cold beers!
Summer vacations meant road trips and camping. They were always adventurous! Whether it was way up north to fish or to BC to sight-see and enjoy nature, Joyce always found neat places to visit that made it both entertaining and educational for everyone.
John was very healthy in his retirement, but did eventually get Alzheimer’s, which was managed heroically by Joyce. He landed in the hospital with Pneumonia and went downhill very quickly while awaiting a long term care bed.
Left to mourn are his Wife Joyce and Daughter Cindy, as well as his Sisters Anne and Jean (Gary) and his Sister In-Laws Elaine and Eileen and Brother In-Laws Brian (Penelope), Mike and Cliff, and many Nieces and Nephews etc.
We take comfort in knowing he has joined his Daughter Lori on the other side and that he will also be reunited with his parents and siblings, etc. that passed on before him. We are grateful for the time we had with him and know that he is now free to soar with the angels.
