Jack C. Vlahovic

Jack C. Vlahovic passed away unexpectedly on February 1, 2013 in North Vancouver, BC at the age of 70. Born and raised in Fruitvale, BC, he eventually moved to Vancouver where he began an extensive career as a truck driver before emerging as a union leader and finally, business agent for Teamsters Local 213 and 155, representing workers in construction and the BC film industry with unbridled passion and dedication. Predeceased by his parents, Jakov and Vivian, and two older brothers, Denny and Loyde, he is survived by his wife, Marika, and daughter, Liisa, as well as two daughters from his previous marriage, Jaki (Dan) and Jeni (Ian), five grandchildren, Tristan, Shayne, Finn, Henry and Katherine, his two brothers, Ivan (Carol) and Wyley (Diane), sister, Brandi (Alex) and several nieces and nephews.

He will be deeply missed, but remembered. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, March 2, 2013, from 2:00pm - 5:00pm at the Teamsters' Hall in Vancouver, BC. In support of Jack's devotion to coaching and his belief in the important role sports can play in a child's life, memorial donations can be made to local KidSport chapters. You are invited to leave a fond memory or message of condolence for the family.

So sorry to hear of your loss and our thoughts and prayers go out to you. Harry spent time coaching girls softball with Jack when Jaki was playing on the team and our daughter Kara. They had the same thoughts on the importance of sports in a childs life. Harry has fond memories of that time spent. Jack was a good man and we know he will be missed.

I regret that I will be out of the country when the Celebration of Jack's life will take place. And what a life he had. I knew Jack through the safety association for motion pictures and performing arts, SHAPE (now ACTSAFE). I chaired the board for a number of years. Jack represented his members faithfully and intelligently. He did not speak often at the meetings, but his interventions inevitably were useful and frequently formed the basis for actions to improve safety for all workers in the motion picture industry. Occasionally, I had the opportunity to draw Jack out with stories of his life in the Teamsters. I only wish I had learned more. He was a fine man, a big burly teamster who adored his grandchildren. We shall miss him, and my condolences to his family.
