Velma Dean

June 6, 2026

Surrounded by her family and much love, Velma Dean (nee Ziprick) passed away peacefully on June 6th, 2026, at Langley Memorial hospital following a brief illness.

Born before her time on October 27, 1944, Velma was raised in Inglis Manitoba as the second daughter of John and Bertha Ziprick. Her career with the Royal Bank began in the neighbouring town of Russell, Manitoba. This career proved to bring the most incredible people into her life. Friends that became family. She transferred first to Saskatoon and then back to Winnipeg for a time.

She decided to visit her newly married sister Joan (Brown) in Vancouver in the late 1960’s and never returned to the prairies. She was transferred to Burnaby Main Branch and never looked back.

In 1970 she met her late husband, Roger Dean, and they started their tiny but might family when they welcomed their daughter Carmen almost 4 years later. They enjoyed nearly 40 years of marriage before his passing. Living in the wonderful cities of Vancouver, White Rock, Richmond, and Kamloops. In 2011, Velma relocated to Langley to be closer to her daughter.

Vacations to visit her parents in Inglis with her daughter, camping in Osoyoos with big groups, Christmases spent on Maui and many other adventures, events and memories with friends and her family were enjoyed over the years. She was never short of a laugh or a hilarious comment.

Velma leaves behind a void that will never be filled for many. She is survived by daughter Carmen (Derek Flint), grandchildren Ruby and Maddock Day, step grandchildren Kaya, Jameson and Jackson Flint, many nieces and nephews and brothers and sisters in law. But you cannot forget her friends. Velma prioritized her friendships alongside her family and leaves many behind wondering how they will fill the space she has left.

Her memory will live on in the many stories that will be told through laughter and tears.
