Philip Tsang-Tak Tsui

Philip was born in Hong Kong and moved to Canada with his family in 1974. He is survived by his wife, Ruth, daughters Karen (Jeff), Sharon (Iain), brother Gilbert (Betty), grandsons James and Ewan and many relatives in his extensive family all over the world.

Philip met Ruth, his wife of 57 years, when he was a Purser, and she was a Flight Attendant for Cathay Pacific. When they moved to Canada, they bought a home in Richmond and a fast-food franchise. After they retired, Philip went into the movie world and became an actor.

Everyone who met Philip loved him for his kind and thoughtful nature, his sense of humour and laughter and his classic one-off quips. He always thought about the safety, well-being, and comfort of his family and those he loved.

Philip will be dearly missed by his family and all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

Philip’s Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Kidney Care Clinic at St. Paul’s Hospital in Vancouver or any other health organization of your choice.

I had the privilege of knowing Phil when he joined our stroke recovery back in 2019. He was always such a cheerful, courteous gentleman with a contagious laugh!! I wish I could have gotten to know him earlier as he and Ruth just lived behind our house. It is a huge loss to all of us, esp Ruth & her daughters. May God's presence carry them through this very difficult time. But I know that he is well, resting in the arms of Jesus and we will see him again in the future!!

Phil was one of my dearest friends. He was kind and had a great sense of humour. When Ruthie first went to Hong Kong from Malaysia to take up a job with Cathay Pacific Airways, she didn't know anybody there. So I asked Phil to take care of Ruthie. He took my request literally and married her! Phil, I will miss your friendship forever. You are now home with Jesus with no more pain and suffering.

We were blessed to have the Tsui's move next door to us in 1975. Our families connected and formed an amazing bond and the girls grew up together. We share 48 years of wonderful memories. To this day Shiraine, Lori and Theresa (all in their 50's) and their children call them Auntie Ruth and Uncle Phil. We are more than neighbours...we are like family. We share in Ruth, Karen, Sharon and their family's grief in the passing of Uncle Phil. He will always be remembered as a handsome, friendly, well-groomed, observant, smart, funny, determined man who expressed his gratitude and appreciation often. We miss him; but we know we will see him again with Jesus in Heaven and the loved ones that have gone on before us. We love you Uncle Phil! Until we meet again, God Bless You!

The reason why I love Phil and why he is an outstanding friend is you will never hear from Phil anything bad or ill about anyone. He has an excellent sense of humour and makes you laugh about his experiences as an actor. He has wonderful stories of being in Las Vegas shooting a movie, being shot where he played the part of a Poker player and being featured in many television commercials. Phil loved being in the Movie and television business. I met Phil in 1995 where we appeared in a movie together for the first time and since then we have been featured in several movies together throughout our acting careers. We are also members of an Asian Actors Association formulated in the year 2023 There were thirteen of us and sometimes members leave but we have remain members having a dinner gathering monthly until Corvid 19 . put a stop to that event. I would like to say to a friend in a million a toast "Adios" rather than goodbye

We really got to know Philip when he became an actor, our Asian actors group shared many experiences and Philip being such a nice guy, was easy to talk to. When we got together socially, his witty humour was a joy...Rest in peace Philip, you will be missed, sincerest condolences to Ruth and his family
