Laura Tafelmeyer

February 19, 2021

Laura Tafelmeyer

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Laura Tafelmeyer on February 19, 2021. She passed peacefully at Wascana Rehabilitation Centre in Regina, Saskatchewan after a 5-year battle with cancer.

Laura, 86, was predeceased by her parents John and Anne Shiminsky, her husband Ed Tafelmeyer and her two sisters Helen Norick and Jenny Pulkaunikas. She is survived by her two brothers Henry and Ed Shiminsky and her daughter Dana Tafelmeyer.

Laura was born in Old Taylorton, Saskatchewan and moved to Bienfait, Saskatchewan as a young girl where she attended school and established many wonderful friendships which she maintained throughout the years. After graduation she moved to Estevan, Saskatchewan and attended secretarial college then went on to work at a local law firm. There she met one of their clients, Ed Tafelmeyer and they fell in love and were married in 1963. The following year their daughter Dana was born.

A devoted wife and mother, she continued to work full-time at the law office then later for an oil company, a pipeline company and then a customs broker until she finally retired. She was an active member of the community, belonged to St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church and volunteered annually at the Estevan Music Festival. She was part of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority and also engaged in several municipal and provincial political campaigns. She loved spending time with extended family and summer vacations were often taken to visit her brothers in Calgary, Alberta and Richmond, British Columbia. She was a fun-loving and social person who will be forever remembered and greatly missed.

Special Thanks for the kindness and care she received while at Hillview Manor in Estevan, Trinity Manor, Grace Hospice and Wascana Rehabilitation Centre in Regina.

Due to Covid-19 restrictions, no funeral service will be held. People who wish to honor Laura are asked to consider donating to Regina Wascana Grace Hospice, Regina, Saskatchewan.

Dana. So sorry to hear of your mom's passing. She'll be welcomed by those that went before ncludng your dad and I'm sure my mom will be there to show her around the block. Reading some of the other comments I notice many from other kids that grew up on 1400 block of 2nd street which is a testament to the positive impact she had on all of us. I fondly remeber her waving from the front porch as i'd walk by and whenever I'd return to Estevan and go by our old house, your mom would often be there and bring back all the fond memories. May she be basking in the light of the Lord. I'm sure She's going to liven up the place. ~ Paul Krueger

I am so very sorry to hear of the loss of your mom Dana. Sending you lots of love from the kids and I ❤️ ~ Jenean Loeopky

Dana, no words can ever express our sadness :’( we have to hold on to all the amazing memories we have of her. Aunty Laura always loved a good gathering and we have had many of those in our family over the years. Our family golf tournaments will never be the same. I will cherish so many of those memories, such as golf tees on the fairway (our special bond) and the fun, social, life of the family party she always was. As a child, I remember wearing all her amazing colourful jewellery and shoes, even some of her makeup, wanting to be just like her. I am so grateful we spent time with her in August reminiscing and going through all those pictures together. Always in our hearts. ~ Lana and Darryl Buehler

I’m so sorry for your loss Dana. What a remarkable woman she was. I had no idea of her accomplishments prior to this news; an even greater loss for everyone I’m sure. She must have been your source of strength and independence and will live on in spirit through you! ~ Thea Koshman

We will always remember Aunty Laura’s zest for life and I remember her as being one of the first “professional” women I knew. A role model to me! She was such a figure in the community and didn’t she know everyone!!!! We always felt so welcomed and loved by her (even during the occasional arguments!) Sending all our love! ~ Dawne and George Tiller

We were so sorry to hear dear Laura had passed away. The last time I seen her was at Brenda and Gerrys at Whitebear. She was a very special lady! You’ll have many wonderful memories of your mom and dad❤️ ~ Bob and Marlene Waldegger

Dana, Please accept my late condolences on the loss of your mother. You are in my thoughts and prayers. So this doesn’t seem so strange, we are cousins. My grandmother Florence was your father’s elder sister. Karen Wray ~ Karen Wray
