Nathaniel "Fred" Winfred Symonds

Nathaniel Symonds, known to friends as “Fred”, late of Regina, SK passed away peacefully on Friday, June 15, 2018 at the age of 85 years. With his wife by his side, Fred made his journey to heaven.  He was predeceased by his parents Nathaniel and Gertrude and his sisters Phyllis and Helen. Fred is survived by his loving wife of 62 years Helen: his daughter Allyson McDonald (Eric), son Scott Symonds (Laurie) granddaughters Abby, Madison and Brooke and numerous extended family members and close friends.  Fred was born in Hafford, SK. He attended elementary school in Richard and High School in North Battleford. Fred went on to enjoy a lengthy career with International Harvester as a Sales and Parts Manager. He travelled around Saskatchewan for over 30 years enjoying the people and scenery in every place he stopped. When Fred retired he decided he just wasn’t ready to quit work completely so he took the opportunity to spend more time with his wife and worked for 10 more years with her at ISECO.  Fred was a lifetime Saskatchewan Rider Fan. Game day was always a family affair. Saturday nights were devoted to Hockey night in Canada cheering for his favourite team the Montreal Canadiens and a friendly debate about the game with a phone call from Grannie Symonds guaranteed!  In his retirement Fred enjoyed tinkering with his model train set and spending time in his garden. He loved being outside in the sunshine with the birds and his raspberries. Fred’s grandchildren meant the world to him and he loved spending time with them.  The last part of his life was spent at Pioneer Village and William Booth Care home where the amazing staff enjoyed Fred’s character and his laughter. His last hours were spent in the care of the staff of 4A and Dr. Wildenboer-Williams at the Pasqua Hospital.  We thank them for the compassion they had and the comfort they gave Fred during his last hours.  In honor of Fred’s Memory, please think of his Continental Suit Routine, his character or the way he made you smile.  Donations in Fred’s Memory can be made to William Booth Special Care Home or the Alzheimer’s Society of Saskatchewan.  Please join us for Fred’s Celebration of Life on Friday, June 22, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. in St. Philip Anglican Church, Living Spirit Centre, 3018 Doan Drive, Regina, SK.
