Marion Elizabeth (Betty) Switzer

October 20, 2016

Marion Switzer

On the evening of October 5, 2016, Marion Elizabeth “Betty” Switzer, passed away at Maplewood House surrounded and comforted by family.  Betty was born in 1923 to Charles and Mary (Fitzmaurice) Johnston, in St. John, New Brunswick.

Betty spent a happy childhood in New Brunswick, before moving with her family to Winnipeg, and then Regina.  She married Paul Richardson Switzer in Regina on July 1, 1944 and together they lovingly raised their family of three daughters.  Betty was a gifted artist, an avid bridge player, and voracious reader.  She was a loving wife, mother, and friend who touched people with her wonderful sense of humour and infectious laughter. A friend, Diane, often commented on the love that Betty and Paul shared for so many years.

Betty is predeceased by her loving husband of 68 years, Paul (2011), her daughter Linelle, and her brother Charles.  Left with precious memories of Betty are her daughters Leslie (Rob), Paula (Dan); grandchildren Jennifer (Dale), Stephanie (Darren), Peter (Audrey), Paul (Jody); great grandchildren Jacobi, Jeremiah and Paula.

Family will greet friends at a Memorial Service celebrating Betty’s life, to be held at Maplewood House on October 26th at 3 p.m.  Prior to the service, Betty will be laid to rest with her cherished husband Paul, at Musselwhite Ceremony in Abbotsford.

Our heartfelt gratitude to the nurses at Maplewood House for their gentle, loving and compassionate care of mum over the past four years, and during the time of her passing.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Betty’s name may be made to Maplewood Senior’s Care Society, 1919 Jackson Street, Abbotsford BC, V2S 2Z8.

You are invited to leave a message of condolence for the family.

“Resting with those she loved.”
