George Sunduk

George Sunduk, born August 19, 1920 in the Danbury, SK district and late of the Veteran’s Unit at the Regina Wascana Rehab. Centre passed away on Saturday, March 21, 2015 at the age of 94 years. Predeceased by his parents Alex and Sophie; brothers John, Mike, and Nick; sister Annie Rostotski; grandson Bryce Sunduk. George will be lovingly remembered by his children Virginia Angelopoulos of Regina, SK, Laverne (Colleen) Sunduk of Prince Rupert, BC, and Reginald Sunduk (Lil Stanley) of Regina, SK; grandchildren Michael (Angela), Stacy, Lorelle, Patricia, Sara (Gagan), and Jessica; precious great-grandchildren Antonio, Alivia, and Skylar; mother of his children Annette Sunduk; brother Metro (Adeline) Sunduk; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and other family members. He bravely served in the Canadian Army during the 1940’s and thereafter held a variety of jobs working for Christy Cookies in Toronto, CNR in BC, construction projects at Carrot River and as a Patrol Officer for the Department of Natural Resources. On returning to the Danbury district with his family, he pursued farming and was an avid fisherman and hunter. George had a passion for animals and his favourite hobby was raising Shetland ponies. Funeral Service will be held on Friday, March 27, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. in the Chapel of Wascana Rehab. Centre, 2180 – 23rd Ave., Regina, SK with Rev. Jan Temple-Jones officiating. Interment will be held on Friday, March 27, 2015 at 4:00 p.m. in the Canora Cemetery, Canora, SK.

George was the on the same ward at Wascana as my husband Hugo, almost as long as Hugo, and for some time they were roommates. I was impressed by George's gentle, undemanding nature. He never complained and was always positive and smiling when I talked to him. That was a great attitude to have when it can be difficult adjusting to life in a nursing home for most of us. A family member of another resident described George recently as having kind eyes, a wonderful compliment to him. He never looked happier than when his children and grandchildren visited. I was sad to learn of his sudden passing as I just assumed he would always be there, smiling at us and sipping on his Ensure. My apologies for not being able to attend his funeral. Hi family can take comfort from knowing he was a wise man who made the most of life at Wascana. We miss you George!

George was a resident of the same ward at Wascana as my husband Hugo for years and for a time was his roommate. I found George to always be a happy smiling person and I enjoyed talking to him. he was one of those rare people who seemed to enjoy life and didn't waste time complaining. A family member of another resident described George as having kind eyes. I was saddened by his sudden passing as I just assumed he would be there for a long time yet, smiling and sipping on his Ensure. I am so sorry I could not attend his funeral. The family can take comfort in knowing that George was respected on the Vet ward as someone who never lost his sense of humour and remained serenelyhappy despite the difficulties of life on an extended care ward.
