Kyle Paul Sugden

March 5, 2025

Kyle Sugden

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Kyle Paul Sugden at the age of 37, on March 5, 2025, at 12:44 PM.

Kyle was born on September 3, 1987, at 6:32 PM at Regina General Hospital. He spent his early years in Regina with his mother before the family moved to Vancouver, BC, when he was just 5 years old. In Vancouver, Kyle found joy in many outdoor activities, particularly sports. He loved baseball, soccer, and football, and spent his weekends by the ocean, often crab fishing off the dock. Every summer, he would fly back to Regina to spend time with his beloved grandmother, Pauline, cherishing those moments. Kyle was always proud, as a young child, of his ability to fly alone from Vancouver to Regina and back, feeling like a 'big boy' now. On a few occasions, he even had the exciting opportunity to sit in the cockpit.

When Kyle was 10, he and his mother returned to Regina, drawn back by the desire to be closer to family. At the age of 11, his family grew when he became part of a blended family, gaining three stepbrothers and a stepfather. Summers were spent enjoying YMCA camp, where Kyle's infectious smile earned him the nickname "Smiley." Those were the carefree days of Eastview, where life was full of laughter, mischief, and childhood memories that would last a lifetime.

In high school, Kyle played basketball for both his school team and a local league. After graduating in 2006, Kyle continued his education at SIAST in Moose Jaw, studying carpentry, following in his father Bruce’s footsteps. It was also during this time that he met Sable, and in February 2007, they welcomed their son, Marques.

Kyle worked in various roles within the carpentry industry, including camp jobs that took him out of province for long periods. He was particularly proud of his work with the carpenter’s union on the construction of Mosaic Stadium, often pointing out, "I built that," whenever passing the landmark.

In his later years, Kyle became the father of three more sons with Hannah: Kyrese, born in July 2018; Ezekiel, born in September 2019; and Nathan, born in May 2024. He deeply loved all four of his sons, leaving behind a legacy of fatherhood that he cherished, despite the challenges life presented.

While Kyle faced struggles throughout his life, those who knew him best remember the moments of warmth, humor, and love he shared with them. His laughter, kindness, and infectious smile will never be forgotten. Though his life was cut short, his memory will forever live on in the hearts of those who loved him.

Kyle was predeceased by his sister Alexandra Starblanket, his Kokum and Mushum Gerald and Patsy Campeau, and his grandparents Adele and Zenith Yurkiw.

He is survived by his son Marques, his mother Sable, his three younger sons Kyrese, Ezekiel, and Nathan, and their mother Hannah. Kyle is also survived by his parents Tammy and Darren (stepfather) Yurkiw, his father Bruce Severight, his stepbrothers Cody, Brett (Shailene), and Ashton Yurkiw, his grandmother Pauline Sugden, and numerous other relatives and friends.

Kyle's life was cut far too short, but he has now found peace. Though his time with us was brief, he will be profoundly missed and forever cherished in the hearts of all who knew him.
