Robert Lindsay Sturgeon

Bob passed away peacefully at Minoru Residence on January 31st, at age 81, from complications of dementia. He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Lorraine; four daughters, Laurie (Brook), Barb (Ray), Julie (Gerry), & Sally (Rob); grandchildren Cathy (Rob), Jen (Chris), Scott (Stacey), Charlie, & Morgen; & great-granddaughter Elisa.

He worked for 32 years at BC Hydro, first as a bus driver (while completing his degree at UBC) and then as a computer systems analyst in the human resources dept. He took early retirement and then worked at Telus for about 5 years in computer systems, and retired from there in 1993.

Upon his final retirement, he took up genealogy, and spent many years delving into our family history. In his earlier years, Bob enjoyed woodworking, fixing cars, and spending time with his girls. Bob became the chief umpire for Richmond girls softball league and was highly respected by many.

He was very proud of his children’s and grandchildren’s accomplishments, and always wanted to share their many activities with others.

Bob was an active member of Mensa for many years. He loved music and reading, and is remembered for his wonderful sense of humour.

He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.

Cremation has taken place, and there will be a private family gathering to celebrate Bob’s life.

Messages of Condolence

My heart goes out to this family for their loss but I think Bob lived a full life. It is never easy to lose a family member, especially a father or husband. We have no choice, it will happen to all of us when our time is due. But we have many memories, be they good or otherwise, it's all part of life to treasure & even share. I choose to think of the many good family times we had together with Bob, Lorraine & the girls. Like the times we had Xmas dinners & the bedroom door had to come off to accomocdate all of us at the table, & the time when I blew the lid off of the pressure cooker on Blundel Road while looking after the children while another Stureon girl was about to enter into the Sturgeon family & Bob stayed so calm when he came home from work & saw the stew all over the kitchen ceiling. He very calmy suggested that perhaps it would be O.K. if I didn't follow Lorraine's menu for tomorrow for fear that I might blow up the house!! So the long & shory of it all , is, that life goes on & we can remember the good, the bad or the ugly & I always choose to try to remember the good. I truly believe Bob is in a happy place We should all share that with him. So fly with the angels Bob & enjoy. Love Helen & Bob.
