STEWART, Duncan William
October 4, 1925 – June 25, 2016
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. Duncan passed away peacefully at the age of 90 years after a 6-year battle with lymphoma at the Prince of Peace Harbour in Calgary, AB on Saturday, June 25, 2016. Duncan leaves to mourn his loving wife, Marjorie; sons, Bill (Shelley), Greg (KJ), Robby (Tracey); grandchildren, Nikki (Kristin), Ashley (Dan), Cade, Zak and Koby; great grandchildren, Duncan, Sander, and Nathan; as well as two dear sisters-in-law, Elizabeth Stewart of Dunvegan, ON and Fran Nelson of Vancouver, BC; and his niece, Darlene Stewart of Ottawa, ON. He was predeceased by his brothers, Ian, Sander and Murdo (Evelyn); and his parents, Lachlan and Sarah Stewart. Duncan was born in Glengarry County, Ontario, where he grew up with his three brothers, helping out on the farm. Work later took him west to Alberta and Saskatchewan during the late 1940’s to work on the harvest excursions, where he developed a love of the west. Duncan’s career aspirations took him overseas in 1972 including jobs in Algeria, Spain, Singapore, Indonesia and Yemen acting as Drilling Superintendent for Westburne International Drilling in many challenging remote locations.
A Memorial Service will be held at Airdrie United Church, 212 – 1 Avenue NE, Airdrie, AB on Friday, July 8, 2016 at 1:30 pm. Cremation has taken place.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Duncan’s memory to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, AB Division, 2020 – 10 Street NW, Calgary, AB, T2M 3M2.
