Daniel Inglis Stene

Born in Cadomin, Alberta, Daniel passed peacefully at Melville Hospice Home in Surrey.

Predeceased by his son Daniel, his father Alexander and mother Josephine.

He is survived by his wife, Margaret, daughter, Lesley and her children, Britney and Derek and son Lyle and his family Jessica and Taylor. Dan is also survived by a large extended family in Alberta and BC. He is remembered lovingly and with a smile by Margaret's family in BC and Ontario. Daniel had, and nourished, a wide circle of friends and he made sure that they knew how important they were to him.

Daniel worked for many years at the WCB. His most satisfying and rewarding job, however, was as a member of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, especially when serving the small West Coast communities of Sooke, Ucluelet and Port Hardy.

Margaret would like to thank Drs. Desilet, Vandeveer and Kwok and the staff at the Surrey Cancer clinic who did their best to give Daniel a chance to enjoy a bit more quality time. Margaret and Daniel are also grateful to the Peace Arch lab and blood transfusion teams for their kindness and care. And, at the end, it was Sam and the palliative care home support team and the Melville Hospice Home staff that took compassionate care of both. Thank you, Drs. Duncan, and Brar and especially Amanda for her kindness to Margaret and Daniel in his final hours.

A final thank you to our family physician Dr. Geraldine Daniel for her loving support and guidance during this journey.

Daniel was a regular blood donor throughout his life. Thankfully he was a beneficiary of this life saving resource over several months. He asks that, if you are healthy and able, donate blood as often as you can to help others suffering from disease and injury.

Margaret, I was so sorry to hear of Dan's passing. I know he was everything to you, as you were to him. He was many things to me as well. Going back to the Worksafe times, he was an acquaintance, then a teacher (teaching a bunch of raw, know it all, rookie prevention officers), then a mentor, and then, most importantly, a friend. He was an important factor in many peoples lives. In the 36 years that I have known him he was always a gentleman with a potent sense of humour that could crack a crowd up in an instant. He was an integral part of the group that formed the Kitchen Pass International (formerly Invitational). We missed him the last few years but he was always in the wings with sage advice and caustic comments. He was loved by all and will be missed by many. God Bless you and family as you grieve.

Hi Margaret, I was so saddened to read about Dans passing recently. My deepest condolences to you and your family. I first met Dan when I graduated out of training in April of 1967. My troop mate and I were posted to Victoria Sub/Division. We showed up at Sub/Div HQ and the Sub/Div NCO, a S/Sgt Murdock sent my troop mate to Campbell River and he said to me McIver your posted to Victoria Detachment which worked out of the Law Courts building. It was there that I met Dan who I am sure was on GIS along with Dan Creally. I also remember a Sgt. Bonderud who was the Sgt i/c of the GIS section. In my four months in Victoria I remember Dan talking about working with Lou Dempsey in Sooke. I found Dan to have a great sense of humor, he was great to be around for us young third class constables on detachment. His stories were interesting to listen to. After four months in Victoria I was posted to Port Alberni for two years. I spent five great years on the island. After Port Alberni I was posted to Alert Bay, Gold River, Ganges and then to Sidney Det. I do remember hearing about Dan's posting to Port Hardy. Curious would you and Dan have been stationed in Port Hardy with John Stevens. I have a vague memory of meeting you Dan around this time. Years later in our time in North Delta I ran into Dan at COSTCO in Surrey. It was great to reconnect with Dan and catch up with him. I retired in 1999 and my wife and I now live in Kamloops BC were we were station in the early '80's. Something I have done in retirement is reconnect with troop mates and members I have know and been stationed with.
