Gladys passed away on Wednesday, March 19, 2014 at the Edgemont Retirement Residence in Calgary, AB. She is lovingly remembered by her sister, Blanche Johnston; brother, Donald Slater (Jacquelene), as well as numerous nieces, nephews and extended family and friends. Gladys was predeceased by her sisters, Audrey Whitfield and Mary Slater; and brother, Roland Slater. Gladys spent 40 years with the Department of Education, was very involved with the Anglican Church & Beta Sigma Phi, as well as an avid volunteer with “Meals on Wheels”. She will be remembered for her love of football; as a Roughriders season ticket holder for 40 years. She retired to Richmond, BC, and continued to keep in touch with so many of her friends and family. A Memorial Service will be held in Calgary, AB on Sunday, March 23, 2014.

I want to express my sincere sympathy to the family of Gladys Slater. Gladys and I worked together in the Department of Education in the late 50s and early 60s. She helped celebrate my marriage in 1958 and we have kept in touch through Christmas letters ever since those early days. She and Trudy Birrell have remained faithful in their contact with me and I was blessed indeed with these good friends from my past. I missed Gladys's letter this past Christmas and in a chat with Trudy I was advised of Gladys's failing health. I will always miss her annual greeting and I shall never forget this kind and wonderful lady. ~ Audrey Forrest

I would like to express my sympathy to the family of Gladys Slater. She was my first boss in the Dept. of Education and taught me a great deal. I feel her guidance paved the way for my future success in my chosen career. Gladys and I corresponded through Christmas letters over the years and several years ago we met at Kenosee Lake for a good visit and sharing memories. I feel the loss of a good friend and I am sure her family will miss this wonderful lady. ~ Shirley Corkish
