Cedric "Ted" Simison

Cedric “Ted” Simison passed away in Calgary, Alberta on January 3, 2014 at 86 with his family by his side. Ted was born June 15, 1927 in Tompkins just south of his parents farm in Saskatchewan. His father died when he was young and his eldest brother stepped into his dad’s shoes. Ted moved into Tompkins at age 9 with his mother and four surviving brothers. Tompkins and surrounding farming communities knew him for his athletic abilities especially for his ability to switch hit. He continued to be an avid hockey and football fan especially cheering for the Saskatchewan Roughriders. Ted worked in Tompkins and on a sheep farm until joining the Canadian Armed Forces at 21. His first posting was Calgary where he met and married his first wife. They had five children; Bev, Lynn, Sandy, Craig and Peggy. He retired a Warrant Officer after 28 years; 4 of which were in Germany and Sardinia as part of NATO services. Ted was hardworking even in retirement as an employee at boat sales in St. Albert. When he did finally retire he put those energies into helping his friends and serving the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 75 in Maple Creek nominated him to Life Membership for his dedication. Ted is predeceased by his Scottish father, George and Irish mother, Ella as well all his brothers; Bert, George, Doug, Lenard and Robert. He leaves 11 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. Friends will remember a gentle soul with a generous heart; a wonderful charming smile who was quick to help. His passions were chatting over coffee, playing any type of card game, doing puzzles and the daily paper’s word find. Ted believed in God though avoided organized religion. He wished to be cremated and laid to rest with his parents and youngest brother in Tompkins. Friends and family are invited to share a Service in Calgary on Saturday, January 11, 2014 at 2:00 pm in the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 285, 9202 Horton Road SW, Calgary. Ted’s favorite charities were the Canadian Cancer Society, Canadian Lung Association, the Heart and Stroke Foundation and the Children’s Charity Fund.
