With great love and sadness, we announce the passing of Cal Shaw at 70 years old. Cal passed away on Thursday, March 17, 2022 at the Regina General Hospital, Regina, Saskatchewan.
Cal was born on September 30, 1951 to Doug and Bernice Shaw of Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan. As indicated in his Grade 12 yearbook, Cal had a lifelong dream to become a professional “Playboy” but as the salary for such a job did not meet his expectations he instead worked in the mines and mills. Following this, he upgraded his education and worked as an administrator for rural municipalities, towns and villages in Saskatchewan. This allowed Cal to live a life of adventure while working for the Hamlet of Kugluktuk, Nunavut and for Diavik in Yellowknife, Northwest Territories.
Cal was a talented artist and enjoyed carving inukshuks and bears. His carvings were made from one piece of stone and not glued or pinned. He was taught by Bill Nasogaluak and Blake Noksana of Yellowknife, Northwest Territories. He enjoyed playing cards, games, hunting, fishing and gardening. He retired on a farm near Mozart, Saskatchewan where he enjoyed every minute of each day and collected several miscellaneous items, leaving a lot of stuff which his wife and daughter have no idea what to do with.
Cal was married to Pat Bjarnason for 50 years. Cal will be deeply missed by his wife; daughter Tonya; son-in-law Steve Pugh; granddaughter Meredith and grandson Tristan; his sister Sandy Hallen; brother-in-law Leon Bjarnason; his sister-in-law Betty-Ann Bjarnason; as well as numerous uncles, aunties, nephews, nieces, friends, cousins and acquaintances. Cal was predeceased by his parents and brother-in-law George Hallen.
Cal’s Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, April 2, 2022 from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. in the Wynyard Legion Hall, 202 - 3rd Street East, Wynyard, Saskatchewan. Service will be conducted by our special family friend Reverend George Holiday. Cal was never one to dress up, so the family requests that you come dressed comfortably. We hope that you will smile as you remember Cal because this is what he would have wanted.
Memorial donations may be made to the Mozart Sympawthy Animal Sanctuary, Box 37, Mozart, SK S0A 2S0, Canadian Cancer Society, Canadian Lung Association or Diabetes Canada.
