Sharon Lynne Rothenburger (nee Veitch), aged 81, of Langley BC, passed away peacefully after a courageous battle with Pulmonary Fibrosis on October 25, 2026.
Mom loved to smile, loved to laugh, and most of all loved to be surrounded by her family. Her friends and her family were what gave her joy. Being Nana was truly her favourite title! Her grandchildren and especially her great-grandson were the best part of her life. There was nothing she enjoyed more than a family dinner and playing cards with her kids and grandkids.
Sharon was born on January 10th, 1945, in Lytton, BC. Her family moved to Allenby, just outside of Princeton in 1952. In 1955 they moved back to Lytton. In the summer of 1956, they moved to Vancouver. Then in 1957 they moved to a house at the end of Scott Road in Surrey and Mom went to Princess Margaret School at its original location on 132nd Street, she had a bit of a hike, uphill both ways, I’m sure. From there they moved into Whalley and Mom went to Queen Elizabeth High School. When she left school, she worked at A&W as a car hop, in 1965 mom went to work at Seagrams where she met her best friend, Grace. From there she started working for Dynamac Flagging which became a 30 year career. Once she had kids, she left flagging for a time and worked at Zellers where she made many friends that she is still in touch with today. Once Karen and Rob were a little older, she went back to flagging, working with Gail at Gemco for many years until she retired in 2005 when her last grandson was born.
Mom and Dad met in Surrey in 1969 and were married on July 24,1971. In March of 1972 they welcomed a daughter, Karen and in January of 1974 they were lucky to welcome a boy, Rob. They spent most of the kids growing up years in South Langley. Once the kids were out of school they moved for a short time to Langley city and then moved up to Walnut Grove where they spent the next 20 years. From there they downsized and moved to a condo in Langley city where they were still living. Mom loved living close enough to Karen and the kids so that she could be part of the everyday life of the grandkids while they were little. She was able to walk them to school, or pick them up, or attend special events. She always had a great seat at Christmas concerts and baseball games.
Mom and dad had many, many happy memories spent with friends and family “out at the lake” building the cabin, horseshoe tournaments, summer weekends and Christmases at Grandma’s. Mom LOVED to dance, and house parties were some of her favourite times. While looking through her photo albums there are pages and pages of the fun times they had at house parties with their friends over the years.
Later in life camping and some travel became favourite pastimes. They traveled with Bob and Ev, Bill and Sylvia and Doug and June. Camping with the family, trips to Palm Springs, all of the Worldmark trips and those “almost famous” trips to Wendover, Nevada.
Sharon is survived by her husband of 55 years, Ken, her daughter Karen Moore and her partner James Monteith, three grandchildren, Tanner (Samantha), Michael and Ryan, and their dad Rob Moore, her son Rob Rothenburger and his partner Lisa Dick, two grandchildren, Sierra and Angel and by the light of her life her great-grandson Levi. Sharon is also survived by her sister Pat Pears and her brother Bill Veitch as well as many nieces and nephews, her cousin Gail McInnes and also by many, many friends that have become family over the years. Sharon is predeceased by her parents Leslie Veitch and Janet and Al Scheltgen.
To quote a good friend “thank you for being one of the good moms!” We love you Nana we’re going to miss you forever.
A celebration of life will be held on November 21st at Fernridge Hall (2389 200th Street) in Langley from 1:00-4:00pm
