Eileen Florence Shaflik

Born in 1923 in Castlecomer, Ireland, Eileen passed peacefully at the age of 90 years on June 11th, 2013 at Langley, BC. She was predeceased by her husband Rudy. Eileen is survived by sons Paul, Carl (Xiao Ping), daughters Gail Bourgeois (Paul) and Lynn Ramsay (Kent), numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren, and sisters Maureen and Claire.

Eileen grew up in Ireland and moved to England during WW2 where she met and married Rudy and started her family. She immigrated to Burnaby, BC in 1946 where she raised her family, living there until Rudy passed away in 1991. She then moved to Beach Grove where she realized her lifelong dream of having a seaside home, remaining there until the end.

She will be loved and remembered by all who knew her and will remain forever in our hearts. Funeral services will be held at 1pm on Tuesday, June 18th, 2013 at Saints Joachim and Ann Catholic Church, 2826 272nd Street, Aldergrove (entry off 273rd Street north of 28th Ave.). An informal reception will follow the service in the church basement. In lieu of flowers, a donation to the charity of your choice would be appreciated.

The family would like to thank the staff at both the Delta Memorial Hospital and Magnolia Gardens Care Home for kind care and gentle support.

Paul, Carl, Gail and Lynn - our deepest sympathy to you all. I remember fondly my visit to Auntie Florrie in 2003 (hard to believe 10yrs have passed by!). Warm to you all and your families. On behalf of our family here in Ireland, Iwould like to offer my sincerest condolences to Paul, Karl, Gail and Lynn on the sad passing of your dear mother. I have many many fond memories of Aunt Florrie going back to the time I spent with her and Rocky in Vancouver. She was without doubt a great mother to you all and will be dearly missed. She has however over the course of her life left you all with many great memories and I know you will cherish These. Having lost our own mother only three weeks ago we all understand the sadness you are all feeling and our thoughts are with you all at this difficult time. It is really hard to accept that these two sisters could pass on within weeks of each other but such is life. It was with sadness I learnt of the death of your mother otherwise known to our family as "auntie florrie" as one of florrie's brother willie's daughters it is sad that another one of his sisters has passed so soon after violet anyway I would like to offer my sympathy to you all at this sad time and will keep her in my prayers yours terri o neill (nee ryan)

For nearly 35 years she was a client, a friend, and a confidante. It's very hard to believe that she's now gone. I first met Eileen when she called on me in the late 1970's to provide accounting and income tax consulting services to Shaflik Engineering Ltd, the company founded by husband Rudy, and operated by him and his sons Paul and Carl. In my experience, Eileen was a lady who clearly knew her own mind, and was never hesitant to express her opinion. No one was spared, and fools were not suffered readily! But it was her great sense of humour and lilting Irish laughter which seemed always to keep her grounded and going forward. Over many years I watched as she generously helped out with the challenges faced by numerous members of her extended family, all of whom she cared for very deeply. The world will definitely never be the same without Eileen Florence Shaflik - but the legacy that she leaves behind will ever remain dear to her family and friends. So sorry for your loss. She was a feisty ole gal. Always had to be ready for a scrap if she did'nt agree with you. I will miss her. all the best.

I am so sorry to hear of your loss Paul. It looks like your mother had a very long, happy, and healthy life. I'm sorry I never had the chance to meet her but if she was anything like you, I'm sure it would have been a memorable one!
