Alice Ida Scheafer, late of Emerald Park, SK gently left this world on Sept. 13, 2018 at 90 years of age. Alice was predeceased by her husband Edgar last autumn after 62 years together. She is survived by her daughters Joy (Rob) Dobson, Helen (Lincoln) Bailey, and Gwen Molnar; grandchildren Amber (Rob), Ashley (Aaron), Stewart (Nicole), Rhett, and Carmen; great-grandchildren Dylan, Ava, Theo, and Isabelle; and sister Agnes Butz.
Alice was born in Montreal, where she started her work life at Bailey Meter. She met Ed at one of the YWCA dances she organized, and in 1955 they settled in Regina as newlyweds. Alice easily made many lifelong friends because of her generosity and “get it done” spirit. She was the role model for a new generation of post-war women, combining raising a family with support of her husband’s construction business and her own career. Alice especially enjoyed her work at the RCMP Museum. She was an active community member with 25 years of service as a volunteer with the Regina General Hospital Auxiliary. This and other contributions led to her being a proud recipient of the Saskatchewan Centennial Medal. Her greatest love was family and she was happily busy in retirement being Grandma’s taxi and babysitting service. Alice was always willing to explore new adventures – like a tattoo as part of a holiday makeover in Orlando in 2013! No ask was too big as Alice always put others first. Her move to William Albert House in 2010 was the last of sixteen different homes she shared with Ed. There she was known for her love of friendly competition at games and lucky streaks at bingo and scratch cards. The care and love received there made it easy for Alice to retain her sense of humor, her fierce independence, and her gratitude for small kindnesses.
A private celebration of Alice’s life will be held at a later date. Donations in memory of Alice may be made to the Hospitals of Regina Foundation.
