Robert Donald Peck passed quietly in the wee hours of April 27, 2026 at the Balcarres Integrated Care Centre, 1 month and a few days shy of his 81 birthday.
Bob was born June 1, 1945 in Regina, to Albert and Alice Peck. He grew up in Abernethy with his two older brothers, Ron and Bud. Bob attended school in Abernethy for a short time, however his teacher realized something was different about Bob and the education system was not equipped to handle at that time. He was then sent to the Weyburn Mental Hospital and then to the Moose Jaw Mental Institution for education and training until his early teen years. He remained with mom and dad until May, 1982, where he entered the then Parkland Lodge, joining dad and grandpa Marriott who had been admitted before him. When the Balcarres Integrated Care Centre was built, he moved into a brand new room in the Aqua wing, where he stayed until early 2026 when his health took a turn. He was then transferred to a room another room just down the hall as he needed more care.
Bob loved spending time with his brothers, sometimes getting him in a little hot water with mom. One time he came in the house with a beer in one hand, half empty bag of chips in the other, displaying a rather jubilant mood!
Bob loved to fish, go for drives, talk to anyone and everyone he knew, animals, walks, and helping out wherever he could. He spent a number of summers at Camp Easter Seal bringing back many memories of staff he met and events participated in.
Bob's mind worked very differently than the rest of us. His memory was razor sharp, could recall with accuracy who lived where in Abernethy, going back decades, bringing back events that you could swear just happened yesterday. He could walk in any room and without looking around, knew who was or was not there within seconds.
He knew his caregivers schedules and if they were late, he would tell them! He would question them if they were not working, when they were off, why, etc, always keeping details between the two of them. He paid attention, something sometimes even able minded people will not do.
Bob is survived by his brother Bud (Lorraine) Peck, their boys Brian and Kevin (Jody) and girls, sister Lisa Bogard (Danny), Lisa's family Logan, Riley, and Ciara, nephews and nieces Michelle, Kyle, Nicole, Sarah, and extended nephews and nieces. Bob was predeceased by mom and dad, and brothers Ron and Ed
He had other family at the BICC who also need to be mentioned. He cherished all the staff dearly from 1982 to 2026 and those who were there at the time of his passing. Their kindness, love, and compassion go far beyond words, and appreciation for all their time with Bob cannot be measured.
By family request, there will be no service. He will be inurned at the Abernethy Cemetery at a later date. Donations can be made to the Balcarres Integrated Care Centre in Bob's memory should anyone like to offer a tribute.
