Melanie Regier

Melanie Regier passed away peacefully Saturday April 30, 2022, at the age of 47. She was resigned into the loving arms of Jesus with her husband holding her hand at the hospital in Abbotsford BC after a three-year battle with cancer. The love she had for her husband, family and many friends was a testament to how she lived her life, putting others first. She is survived by her husband Rand, children Savannah, Austin, Colby and Chase, sister Katherine, brothers Rod and Jeff, Mother Loralee, Father Rod Sr.

Mel grew up in Abbotsford and lived in Regina, SK before returning to the coast for the last fifteen years. She was an accomplished writer and achieved a double major in English and History, graduating from the University of Regina. She was a fifteen-year employee of WestJet and was a flight attendant for the last eight years after being a gate agent in Regina and Abbotsford. She had a unique ability of reaching out to strangers and the many co-workers, forming strong bonds using her infectious personality and a caring approach to involve herself in the needs of others.

Her family is hosting a public celebration of her life at Ross Road Community Church on May 27th, 2022. At 1:00 pm until 3:00 pm.

I only knew Mel for such a short while and within that time she was such an amazing beautiful person inside and out she was always thinking of others before herself and trying to help with whatever she can or could do. She was so very strong and had the strength to get through all the rough times and remained so positive when she wasn’t even feeling well. My condolences to the family, Mel is now at peace.

Death is nothing at all. It does not count. I have only slipped away into the next room. Nothing has happened. Everything remains exactly as it was. I am I, and you are you, and the old life that we lived so fondly together is untouched, unchanged. Whatever we were to each other, that we are still. Call me by the old familiar name. Speak of me in the easy way which you always used. Put no difference into your tone. Wear no forced air of solemnity or sorrow. Laugh as we always laughed at the little jokes that we enjoyed together. Play, smile, think of me, pray for me. Let my name be ever the household word that it always was. Let it be spoken without an effort, without the ghost of a shadow upon it. Life means all that it ever meant. It is the same as it ever was. There is absolute and unbroken continuity. What is this death but a negligible accident? Why should I be out of mind because I am out of sight? I am but waiting for you, for an interval, somewhere very near, just round the corner. All is well. Nothing is hurt; nothing is lost. One brief moment and all will be as it was before. How we shall laugh at the trouble of parting when we meet again!

To all of Mel’s Family, I am so very sorry for your loss I have many fond memories of Mel working together at WestJet but even better were the times I spent with Mel away from work. She not only attended every social event that she could and but she hosted many great parties and in her hospitable Saskatchewan style never put a limit on who or how many could come and always made sure there was enough delicious food to feed the entire community!! She was always willing to try something new and made every activity fun! Her contagious laughter and spirited wit left me in stitches but she also deeply cared for people and took time to get to know them. She was loyal friend, a defender and a voice for friends and coworkers who found it difficult to stand/speak up for themselves. Her love and pride for her family was evident in how often, and in the way she spoke about them. I am praying for you as you process your grief. Thank you for sharing her with us. Teresa Smith
