It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother and uncle. Larry passed away March 30, 2014 at the age of 90 years.
Larry was the eldest of four children born to Harold and Eileen Poland. He lived with his parents and siblings on a farm east of Drumheller. After completing high school in Drumheller Larry served one year in the army near the end of World War 11. As a young man he also worked for Green Construction and in the coal mines.
On March 12, 1949 Larry married Doris Lefley. They shared 63 years together before her passing April 6, 2012. They had two children, Larry Wayne and Colleen. Larry had 6 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. Larry and Doris lived on the farm soon after their marriage. They built their home and later moved it to where it sits today. Larry was also one of the first land owners to have and operate oil and gas wells on his property.
Larry and Doris moved off the farm into Drumheller October 2002 due to health issues, and in June 2003 Larry was moved into the Continuing Care facility, where he resided until his passing.
Many thanks to the numerous people that always had time to chat with him, give him a hug, tell him a joke, or just brighten his days. He always had a smile for the nurses and staff members of the Recreational Department.
There will be a Celebration of Larry's Life
on Friday April 11, 2014 from 1pm-4pm at the Royal Canadian Legion in Drumheller. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Larry's memory to the Recreational Department of Continuing Care at the Drumheller Hospital, 351- 9 street NW, Drumheller, AB, T0J 0Y1.
