Doris Marion Poland
April 6, 2012
It is with great sadness that we announce the
passing of our beloved wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, and great
grandmother. She passed away peacefully in the early hours after a long stay in
hospital suffering from congestive heart failure. Doris was born number 5 out of 10 siblings
and lived in the Drumheller area her entire life, with her husband Larry of 63
years. Doris and Larry have one son Larry Wayne and one daughter Colleen. They
also have 6 grandchildren; Marcie, Dana, Larry, Tanis, Tatum, and Kia as well
as 10 great grandchildren; Celeste, Zachary, Ketiya, Tori, Kyley, Shelby, Tyson, Ella, Cole, and
Nya. Family was very important to Doris
and she loved teaching all her children to fish (at the Poland Pond), play
cards, do crafts, play games and practical jokes on everyone. Doris was an avid
bowler, once bowling a perfect game. She loved volunteering and was part of
many groups and organizations. Doris spent 20 summers cooking for Camp Gordon
at Pine Lake. Hockey was also an
important part of Doris’ life. Whether it was watching her son, her
grandchildren, her great grandchildren or the Drumheller Minors, you would
always find Doris front and center with her cow bell and booming voice urging
on her team. Doris and Larry lived on
their farm in the Verdant Valley area until 2002 when they moved to Drumheller.
For the last 8 years Doris resided at the Sunshine Lodge and was part of the
social scene there. Doris will be greatly missed by her family and
friends. A Celebration of Doris’s Life
will be held at the Knox United Church, 195 – 3rd Ave. E.,
Drumheller, AB on Friday April 13th at 2:00 pm. In lieu of flowers please make donations to the Heart
and Stroke Foundation of Alberta, NWT and Nunavut, 100, 119 – 14th
St. NW, Calgary, AB T2N 1Z6.
Messages of condolence may be left for the family.
