Gary Eugene Piper
June 18, 1945 – September 5, 2016

Gary was born in Bath, New Brunswick the oldest son of Glenn and Ina Piper. In 1969 he moved to Kitchener, Ontario where in 1975 he met his wife Cheryl. In 1979 he moved his family to his wife’s home province of Alberta.

Gary had a great love for horses, mules and children. One of his passions was the Mount View Special Riding Association where for the past 25+ years he felt it a privilege to volunteer his horses, time and expertise to help the members of the association.

Gary was a “jack of all trades” and loved to build and create. His children were often heard saying “my dad can fix anything”. Over the years he built numerous wagons, sleighs, carts and anything else that could be pulled by a horse. His favorite medium was metal and creating horseshoe art. Show him a picture and he could make it.

A favorite thing was to go camping, spending the days on a horse (or mule) riding the mountain trails and evenings around the campfire exchanging stories with family and friends.

Gary is lovingly remembered by his wife, Cheryl; children, Michelle McNutt (Kevin), Tim (Suzanne Taylor), Dustin, Nadine Willis and Katrina Ivey; grandchildren, Cassandra, Karsten, Nixon and Bauer; mother, Ina Piper; siblings, Fred (Valerie), Aubrey (Kathryne), Gladwyn (Sheila), Merrietta Dow (Wayne), Joyce Petersen (Richard Phillips), Paul Jordan (Pauline); along with nieces, nephews and other extended family. He was predeceased by father, Glenn; and son, Gary Eugene.

A Celebration of Gary's Life will be held Friday, October 7, 2016 and the Cow Palace, 5116 – 54 Street, Olds, AB starting at 6:30 pm

Our condolences goes out to you Cheryl and all your families. We met Garry about 16 years or more ago when we joined up with our long existing horse club WRR. Garry was a very special individual. Laughs and smiles and stories to tell would make both of us pee our pants until past night fall. My deepest condolences to Cheryl and all of Gary's family. I so enjoyed visits with Gary, throughout the 16 years that I've been working with the Mount View Special Riding Assoc. Gary was always uplifting and kept everyone laughing. He was a very special man, and he will be missed by so many friends and acquaintances. Gary was always there help fix whatever needed fixing, whether it was equipment, tack, vehicles, or a sad heart. I won't forget his smile and the sparkle in his eyes.

Don't forget about Garry the long distance trucker, running team, then the best dispatcher that mercury tank lines had in there whole system. Five and six days a week that started at 4:30 every morn, That's for ten years, 1990 to 2000. We used to talk horses and cattle then. A life well lived, proud to know him and work with him.
