PFIFFIG – Ruth Ursula Erika (Franke)
March 16,1911 – July 29, 2015
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mother and grandmother, “Oma” Ruth Pfiffig. She will be lovingly remembered for her deep love and commitment to her husband, August who predeceased her in 2009; her son, Peter (Lenore Pfiffig); and her grandchildren, Christopher, Nathalie (Rene Robinson), and Jonathan. Born in Brandenburg an der Havel and raised in Berlin, she loved music, gymnastics, and dancing. She moved to Vienna to marry the love of her life, Gustl, and they immigrated to Calgary in 1952 with their son. She worked for many years at the Chinook Room at the Bay downtown, and then operated Villa Grocery in Bridgeland before retiring. Her later years were devoted to her loving family.
She will be remembered for her kind and generous heart, her courage, and her devotion to her family and friends. She will be greatly missed. Our special thanks go to Oma’s caregivers Clara Flores, Larissa Naida, and Grace Kim, who allowed us to keep her at home until well after her 104th birthday.
A Private Family Service will be held. If desired, donations may be made in Ruth’s memory to Southwood Hospice, 211 Heritage Drive SE, Calgary, AB, T2H 1M9.
