Norman Hughbert Penner

Sept 1931 – Aug 2025

With hearts full of love and gratitude, we share the passing of Norman Hughbert Penner, a devoted husband, father, grandpa, uncle, and friend, who left this world just shy of his 94th birthday.

Born in northern Alberta during the early years of the Great Depression to his hardworking farming parents, Ben and Louise, Norman grew up rooted in the values of faith, family, and perseverance. These guiding principles shaped his character and became the foundation of a life marked by his Faith, integrity, loyalty, and an unwavering work ethic—qualities that touched and inspired everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.

As an independent heavy equipment operator and business owner, Norman leaves a lasting legacy of infrastructure that continues to serve the people of BC and Alberta to this day. Tunnel building, bridges, roads, and logging stand as part of his remarkable contributions over a career spanning more than forty years.

Norman’s kind and considerate nature, paired with his unique blend of wisdom, common sense, and gentle humour, made him both approachable and deeply respected. A true patriarch, he lived with a spirit of gratitude, always recognizing God’s blessings in his life. He delighted in the beauty of nature, the joy of music, the love of sports, and the simple pleasures of camping and gathering with loved ones. His happiest moments were those spent sharing stories, laughter, and memories with family and friends.

Generosity defined Norman. He was always the first to offer a helping hand, no matter the time or circumstance. His steady faith, wise counsel, and loving support enriched countless lives and will be profoundly missed.

Norman is reunited at last with his beloved wife M.Gail (Kaiser) Penner, the love of his life for 64 years. He leaves behind his children Darrell (Susan) Penner, Neil Penner, Susan (Dean) Boyd, Carol (Kevin) Antonsen, his grandchildren Julianna (Matthew) Jaehrlich, Tamara (Joshua) Schoepp, Ian Antonsen, David Boyd, Hugh Penner, Sarah Boyd and Orson Penner and his siblings Gordon Penner and Velma (Penner) Keck.   He is predecesased by his parents Benjamin & Louise (Badke) Penner as well as his siblings Walter Clausen, Ella (Clausen) Corriavue, Lawrence Penner, Irene (Penner) Middleton, Marie (Penner) Patterson, Willard Penner, Albert Penner, Lorraine (Penner) Delisle. Though he has left this earthly home, his legacy of faith, hard work, kindness, and devotion to family will live on forever in the hearts of all who loved him.

“Don’t let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God, and trust also in me.  There is more than enough room in my Father’s home. If this were not so, would I have told you that I am going to prepare a place for you?  When everything is ready, I will come and get you, so that you will always be with me where I am.  And you know the way to where I am going.” John 14:1-4 NIV
