Debora May Nielsen

Debora May Nielsen, born on August 20th 1955, passed away peacefully on May 6th 2021.

Debora is survived by her loving husband Johannes Nielsen (Toedge), her son Kurt Nielsen and daughter-in-law Sarah Nielsen, her grandson Travis Nielsen, daughter Tris Nielsen, her brother Richard Kachur and her mother Helen Kachur. The family was at her bedside when she passed. We thank the doctors and nursing staff at Holmberg House - Abbotsford Hospice Residence - for their kind care and attention to Debora.

Debora was a caring wife, mother, and grandmother. She was always thoughtful of the needs of others. Her passion to live life to the fullest was inspiring. She loved to travel, play golf and pickleball, and to spend as much time as possible with her family.

Debora had two careers during her working years. She first worked doing merchandise displays at Woodwards. When she became a mother she stayed home to care for her kids. When Kurt and Tris got older she went back to college and graduated as an Education Assistant, a job at which she worked for a number of years before retiring.

At the request of the family, please do not send flowers. Instead please send donations to your favorite charity. Two good options are Abbotsford Hospice Society and BC Cancer.

I met Debora through my friend Patrice, golfing a few times together and at a birthday celebration. I remember her as very friendly and kind-hearted. But I knew her best through stories Patrice told of the long friendship they had and how supportive and caring she was as a friend and mother.

I had the pleasure of working with Deb at Bear Creek Elementary. We partnered together to form the Green Team, drink box recycling for the school. We shared so many laughs and good times with our kids and special outings were the best. We also partnered together with a couple of students and that worked well. Debra was a kind soul and we sure had fun with our students. So very sad for your loss.
