Joseph Walter Newby passed away peacefully on June 9, 2021 at the age of 86.
He was predeceased by his parents Joseph and Mary Newby; his loving wife Olga; his sisters Josephine Campbell, Minnie Clayton, Beverly Newby and Marilyn Knecht. Joe is survived by his sons Richard Newby and Robert (Tracey) Newby; granddaughter who he shared a special bond with Tiffany (Nolan) Newby; as well as numerous nieces and nephews; his best friend Marietta; and all his friends of Sarnia Beach, SK.
Joe worked for CN Rail for 37 years. He always had a passion for locomotives since he was a young child and that carried into his adult years. In the 70’s, Joe and his wife Olga and their twins built a cabin from the ground up and that’s where Joe spent most of his life after retirement. He loved being on the boat, watching the birds and keeping busy with yardwork. He was a handyman and had the ability to always use old parts to rig up something new to make it work again. He loved to stay busy and productive. Joe had a contagious smile and laugh that could brighten anyone’s day.
A very special thank you to Joe’s caregivers and all the staff at Wascana Rehabilitation Centre of Unit 3-5, Regina, SK who became family, as well as the staff of Santa Maria Senior Citizens Home, Regina, SK where he spent his last few weeks.
Due to Covid-19 restrictions the family has decided a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
If you so desire in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Wascana Rehabilitation Centre Unit 3-5, c/o Hospitals of Regina Foundation (www.hrf.sk.ca).
