Tom passed away peacefully at home with his wife and best friend by his side after a lengthy battle with cancer and MDS. Tom is survived by his wife Bev, Children Carl (Carrie), Kimberly (Ron), Ian (Kristy), Sister Wendy Collister (Victoria B.C.), Grandson Cole and other loving family members. Tom was predeceased by his mother and father, Marjorie & Charles Nelson of Victoria, B.C. Tom served 26 years in the R.C.M.P. of which he was very proud. Tom retired in Nanton in 1995. He was very proud to be involved in the Nanton Masonic Lodge, as well as the Boosters, Golf Course, Legion, Fire Dept and the Nanton community in general. Family and friends were a priority in Tom’s life. As per Tom’s request there will be no funeral but a celebration of his life will be held Dec 7, 2013 at 2 p.m. at the Nanton Community Centre. If desired donations can be made in Tom’s memory to the High River Cancer Care Centre, 509 – 9 Avenue W., High River, AB, T1V 1B3 or Bomber Command Museum of Canada, PO Box 1051, Nanton, AB, T0L 1R0. We would like to thank Dr Duggan & Karen for the special care he was given as well as the rest of the staff at the Tom Baker Cancer Centre and also the wonderful, caring staff of the High River Cancer Centre & the Calgary South Campus Hosp.

Bev, Carl, Kim and Ian- I am so sorry for your loss. I know we were not close but you were always in my thoughts. I re - connected with Wendy a few months ago on Facebook, and learned that Tom (your Dad ) was not doing good. I have wonderful memories of our visit to Nanton when my girls where little. My dad your Uncle Ken also passed when he was just 64 years old- far to young to be taken from us. Please hold onto all the great memories you have. Bev & Family Dolores and I were deeply saddened to learn of Tom's passing. From 1973 until 1978 we lived close by in the Marlborough area of Calgary and we babysat each other's children many times. Tom and myself were both snipers on the Calgary ERT team from 1976 until 1978 when I transferred to Fort MacLeod. He visited us here and we visited him when he was stationed in Strathmore.
