Marj Millard, at a healthy 79, passed peacefully on Sunday, December 4th, 2016 after suffering a severe stroke two days earlier. We are comforted in this sudden and painful period by our trust in her strong personal faith. Leading the celebration, mourning and story-telling are her husband Ivan, daughter Lori, son Howie (Kim Furlong), and grandsons Emmett and Theo.
Marj was born in Regina in 1937, the daughter of Bernice and Robert Brooks. For her entire life she was known to this family as "Sigan", a nickname that she acquired because her toddler-brother Norman couldn't properly pronounce the nickname her father had given her – "chicken". Sigan was loved by her 12 brothers and sisters: Howard, Bernice ("Sister"), Norman, Arlene ("Tiny"), Bonnie, Sandra, Danny, Audrey, Loretta, Darlene ("Punky"), Lyle and George – and their families.
Marj joined the Saskatchewan Department of Health in 1956 and worked there until she took up fulltime motherhood with great gusto in 1973. She loved the Saskatchewan Roughriders (mostly), holding season tickets since 1970, and scowled at family that planned weddings on the same weekend as a game. She loved to camp, especially with Ivan's sister Hazel, her husband Bill Barkway and their family. She had a strong network of friends within the church community.
Donations in Marj's memory can be made to St. Philip Anglican Church (Regina) or to the United Way.
Memorial Service will be held on Friday, December 9, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. in St. Philip Anglican Church, 3018 Doan Drive, Regina, SK.
