Mervyn Lawrence McLaughlin
January 6, 2020

On Monday, January 6, 2020 Mervyn McLaughlin passed away surrounded by his family at his home in Carstairs, AB at the age of 82 years. Merv lived life to the fullest. He was a loving husband, father and a very proud Grandpa. He grew up on the family farm near Semans, SK and later took over farming for 33 years. He spent hours in the shop building or repairing almost anything you could think of. This was known as a special place where family, friends and neighbours would gather with Merv to tell stories as they worked. He loved music and is best remembered for playing the piano and singing old country classics at family gatherings.
He is lovingly remembered by his loving wife, Dianne (nee Wagner) of 54 years; daughters, Amber Raedeke (Murray), and Leanne; son, Tyler (Tracey); and grandchildren, Connor, Jayda, Wyatt and Paige. Merv was predeceased by his father, William; mother, Jenny; and sister, Doris.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, January 18, 2020 at the Carstairs Half Century Club, 1139 Osler Street from 2pm to 5pm. Burial will take place in Semans, SK at a later date.

Merv was a great friend for many years We farmed about two miles from his farm. I will always remember the night we spent drinking beer and went straight from the party to the thrashing crew. The old guys of 30 to 40 years old on the thrashing crew spent the day ribbing us for being so foolish. We all used a team of horses and wagon to load the sheaves on a hot dusty day in August. In those days all the farmers in the area worked together to do the thrashing and we moved from farm to farm until everyone was finished. Merv , we will be thinking about you on Jan 18 and God Bless You Gerry and Katherine Elaine Runolfson ~ Gerry Runolfson

We can only smile when thinking of all the good times we had with Mervyn and his family over the years. We had many good times working on projects in the shop in the winter and would discuss the ups and downs of farming sometimes until late in the evening. Our family will miss him, as many will. ~ Larry and Cheryl Berkan, Kim Mack, Tara Ede and Kayla Monette
