Melvin "Earl" McLauchlin

With extreme sadness, we announce Earl's passing due to complications following surgery. Earl was a great teacher who touched the lives of many, most notably at Foothills Academy, Senator Patrick Burns and Colonel Irvine schools. He loved climbing, hiking, camping, fishing, and skiing. He also loved to coach, play, and watch a multitude of sports. Earl had an exceptional gift for golf and woodworking. He will always be remembered for his tremendous wit, sage advice and a passion for lifelong learning. Earl is remembered by his loving wife, Jane, children Jordan, Lindsay, Sarah, and his beloved cat, Tess; Grandma Annie; his parents, Mel (Sue) and Maxine (Ben); brothers John (Kim) and Paul (Melinda) and children; his best friend Colin (Cindy) and children. A Celebration of Earl's life will be held at Wild Rose United Church (1317 - 1 St NW), Calgary, AB on Wednesday, April 4, 2012 at 3:30 p.m. Parking easement will be in effect. I was both shocked and saddened to read about Earl's passing in the paper the other day. I had the pleasure of working with him at Senator Patrick Burns. Earl was a kind and generous colleague, the kind of person who always had a smile and would go the extra mile to help when needed. My heart goes out to you and your family at this difficult time. It was with great saddness that I learned of Earl's passing. I had the opportunity to work with Earl at Foothills Academy where he impacted the lives of so many young people in such a positive way. I feel fortunate to have know Earl, and feel for all of those that never got the chance to. My thoughts are with all of his family at this time.

I am so sad to read of Earl's passing. I had the opportunity to work with him, and I was struck by how much he cared about students. It was evident that he wanted them to feel comfortable and successful at school, and he did all that he could to ensure that their needs were met. He will be missed.

Earl was my teacher at Willowwood school in grade 7/8 he was a wonderful teacher,he always went well and beyond his duties of a teacher, I will never forget him RIP Earl
