Alex
(Mac) McDonald passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by family, on Tuesday,
December 6, 2011 at the age of 97 years.
Alex was born on the family farm near
Brandon, Manitoba, the first of six sons of William and Katherine. The war
brought him west where he met the love of his life, Margaret. They settled in
Alberta, living in Bassano and Cayley before moving to Bowness in 1954. He
worked as a laborer until being hired by the City of Calgary first in sanitation,
then maintenance at City Hall.
Alex was a quiet and gentle man. He loved to
garden, talk with the birds, and travel, especially to Mexico and on cruises.
Just this October, he was looking forward to a holiday to PV. He was a proud
Mason and was made an Honorary Life Member of King George Lodge #59. His
passion was music. From the time he was a lad he loved to play his fiddle,
guitar, mouth-organ and later, auto-harp at home, church, old-folks homes and
senior’s dances.
Alex is survived by his wife of 64 years, Margaret; sons
Murray (Lily) and Tom; daughter Lori (David Little); granddaughters Shawna-Seah and Tamara;
brothers Lloyd and Jack (Peggy), and sister-in-law, Bernie, all of Manitoba, as
well as numerous nieces and nephews.
