April 12, 1947 – January 6, 2018

It is with profound sadness that the family of Jim McCracken announce his passing on Saturday, January 6, 2018 at the age of 70, due to complications from Diabetes. Jim was born and raised in Calgary, Alberta to James & Joyce (Arnstead) McCracken.

Jim was predeceased by his loving wife, Cheryll in September 2017, after 25 years of marriage; his mother & father; his younger brother, Robert and half-sisters, Connie and Patricia. He is lovingly remembered by his children, Darcy, Kelsey (Jai), Lisa and Bonnie (Cam); brother, Donald (Mel) and sister, Betty. Jim’s greatest joy in his life were his four grandchildren, Matthew, Jake, Ever and Kendyl.

As a proud Paramedic, Jim retired from The City of Calgary EMS Department as a Superintendent, after 30+ years of dedicated service.

My condolences to Jim’s family. I knew Jim through my years on the Calgary Police Department, also, we were in Air Cadets together when we were young. Sorry to hear of his passing. RIP friend.

Firstly, my condolences to members of Jim's family. Jim was one my supervisors on " C" platoon from 1980 until his retirement. He was always pleasant and respectful in all his dealings with me. He was well liked and respected by his peers. His sense of humor was only one of his strong points. He was very supportive in times of trouble and will be missed.

To the family of Jim McCracken. I first met your Dad around 1961 when he would come down to the "Jewell Farm" at Aldersyde. I was dating his friend, but Jim and Rod were constant companions when we went out on a date. Jim was a character, had a great sense of humor and I was proud to say that I knew Jim. I was always so proud of him when he became a paramedic and I'm sure that the people he helped would have loved him. I have only seen Jim a few times over the past 30 years, but always enjoyed the visits when they happened. He was a great guy and I know that your memories of him will be happy ones. I am so sorry to hear of Jim's passing. My husband Doug McLeay worked with Jim at EMS. He was always friendly and helpful. Another bright light of life that has passed. If you calculate the number of calls he made over the years, it is the lives touched and the amount brotherly love shared that made this world a better place. He will be missed.
