Max Joseph Bissegger

Max grew up in Saint Gallen, Switzerland, the second child of Johann and Anna Bissegger. Times were hard and Max immigrated to Canada in 1952 in search of adventure and opportunity.

Max settled in Vancouver where he met and married his beloved wife, Frances. They started a family and Max opened a small business, Maxwell Floors. The family grew and the business flourished.

Max enjoyed being with people and was an active volunteer in his community and church. He sang in the Vancouver Swiss Choir and, with his family, participated in many Swiss Society events. In later years, Max and Frances enjoyed travel, square dancing, biking, and family gatherings. After Frances passed, Max spent many happy times with his dear friend Ursula.

Max will be lovingly remembered by children Tom, Dennis (Jean), Marianne (Bill), Greg, grandchildren, extended family and friends.

I was very sorry to hear the news that Max passed away. I knew Max through Star of the Sea Parish in White Rock. Max was kind, and smart with a great sense of humour. He always spoke proudly and lovingly of all his family. My husband and I were the grateful recipients of a few jars of his wonderful jams. It is amazing to think that Mrs. Bissegger (Frances) was my Grade 5 teacher at St. Andrew's School on 47th Avenue in Vancouver in 1959-1960. What a coincidence that was. Max's walking stick was as legendary as he was. Wishing all the family peace and comfort and sincere condolences. Rest in peace, Max. .
