On Friday, February 12, 2021 our beloved mother, sister, aunt, and friend, Gladis Marie Maier died at 85 years of age.
Gladis was born in 1935 in Bayard, SK to Emily and Adolphe Maier. She grew up on the farm and loved the land and lifestyle with all her might. First and foremost, she was a dedicated and devoted mother to her two children Terry and Traci. Gladis worked for the Government of Saskatchewan for her entire career and once retired, her role as volunteer began. She intimately understood injustice and spent her entire life interrupting it in her humble way when and where she could. Gladis enjoyed giving back more than anything!
Gladis is survived by her daughter and best friend Traci Foster and son-in-law Ed Peck, grandson Ryan Seitz, her siblings Shirley Meredith, Lynne (Paul Donovel), Wayne (Terri Maier), her former son-in-law Darren Foster, and numerous beloved nieces, nephews, friends and neighbors.
She was predeceased by her beloved son Terry Kluk (1984), parents Emily (2004) and Adolphe (2001) Maier, her brother Leonard Maier (1981), sister-in-law Clara Maier (2019), brother-in-law Pat Meredith (2015) and niece Lori Donovel (1965).
Gladis relished in the beauty and boldness of nature; it was her first love. She was outdoors as much as humanly possible and believed it to be “the best medicine”. She was a dedicated gardener who spent hours upon hours “putzing around” in her yard. Gladis loved to play cards and, even more than that, to win. She loved to dance and clogged right up to the end. She loved to play ball, ski, cycle, walk, and play tennis and badminton. She adored animals (except for the squirrels that dug up her plants) and she was a lover of all arts and sports.
Gladis was kindness personified and had a sharp sense of humour: her laugh, not unlike her smile, was contagious. She was unpredictable and radically routine. She didn’t stop caring for her many friends right up to her final days. Gladis just never stopped and maybe that was why she recently said, “I can honestly say I have never been bored a day in my life.” She simply LOVED LIFE and made the absolute best of every moment.
Through this pandemic, Gladis spent a lot of time with her daughter and son-in-law and her former husband and new found crib partner Ray Clark. The “bubble” or family time was very special to all. Within this cherished time, she was very happy and content.
