Duncan Mackenzie

With heartfelt sorrow we announce the passing of our beloved Duncan.

Born in Gairloch, Scotland 86 years ago. Predeceased by his brother, Osgood in 1970.

Survived by his loving wife, Donelle of 59 years, daughters Shiona (Joe); and Christine (Richard).

Cherished grandchildren Samantha (Steve), Michelle and Reece. Adorable great grandchildren Payton, Talon and Becklyn. Brother John (Hannah); and family with many relatives and friends in Scotland.

Duncan was a proud Master Builder and former member of GVHB Assoc., Life Member & Past Chief of The Vancouver Gaelic Society and longtime member of The Presbyterian Church of Canada.

Duncan's commitment to his work ethic, diplomacy and patience were trademarks of how he led his life and he often attributed his successes to his tremendous faith.

Memorial Service Saturday, April 07, 2018 at 2:00 pm, St. Andrew's Newton Presbyterian Church 7147 124th Street, Surrey B.C.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Assoociation.

Donelle, Shiona and Christine, I am so sorry for your loss. Please accept my sincere condolences. Duncan (who will always be "Mr. MacKenzie" to me), will also be remembered for being a fun-loving and gracious host. Whether it be a short conversation on a Friday night (while waiting for Chris - lol), or behind the bar and making merry in the family room in North Delta, Duncan always showed an interest in others, was there to listen or share a story. "A man's a man for a that" (Robbie Burns) I think of Duncan on Robbie Burns day when i always have several drams of fine Scotch whisky. I remember your family with much fondness. You were the epitome of what was good about the British people, or as my mum used to say, "there was a time when to be British meant something." As you may know, by parents were British citizens, which my dad earned the long way through 9 years of service in the British army from 1939-1948. I have been to Scotland for work, but my wife hasn't and I look forward to taking her there for a holiday in the next few years. My love to you all, Mike Schoen

Dear Donelle & Family: We were so sad to hear about Duncan's passing and would like to send our condolences. We have truly lost a real and dear friend. There is just so many wonderful memories to share but there is not enough space anywhere to convey them all. He was always there with that smile of his. His legacy will live on.

Dear Donelle, I was sorry to read of Duncan's death. My husband and I met you both when you visited my parents (Bill and Sheila Dunford) in Vancouver, many years ago. My mother was Sheila Stuart Mackenzie, and she was born in Gairloch in 1907. In 2004 we visited Nancy Dumas in Poolewe, and her daughter, Dierdre in Inverness. Peter and I send condolences to you and your family.
