Lois Lorraine Martens Obituary

Heaven is celebrating the arrival of Lois Martens, who was received by her Saviour on May 11, 2026, at the age of 83.

Lois will be missed by her husband of almost 60 years, Walter, her children Michael (Edna), Robyn, and Angela (Jeff), her six grandchildren, Marena (Cam), Tegan (Justin), Brandon, Paige (Owen), Makena, Reece (Landon), four great-grandchildren, Olive, Adela, Remi and Calvin, her brother Allen (Esther), and so many nieces and nephews whom she regularly welcomed into her home. She fiercely loved each one of her nieces and nephews, spending time with them or on the phone keeping in touch no matter how far spread across Canada they were.

Lois was originally from St. Catharines, Ontario and was the youngest of 11 children, Daughter to Jacob and Mary Andres. She had a very close relationship with her nieces especially as some were close in age. Fun memories have been shared about the earlier years including sleepovers and wonderful times spent with them. As well, her family she lived with in Yarrow in 1964 for a few years, have wonderful memories of her sharing her love of music as well as her adventurous spirit.

Lois loved Jesus with all her heart, and freely shared this love with everyone often saying it was her greatest love to tell people about her Jesus. She was a prayer warrior who was always praying for family, friends and neighbours. A devoted wife and mother, and foster mother, she created a warm and inviting home to anyone that needed it. It was always filled with the aroma of buns, cookies and in the summers canning with all the Martens women.

She loved this world and all of it’s wonders. She had a thirst for seeing everything and spent a good part of her life after raising her kids, as a travel agent showing and taking others around the world. Her adventurous spirit saw her climbing the Monkey Temple Steps, riding camels in the desert, to swimming in the deep turquoise waters of the Caribbean. Her favourite place shared with Walter was on the beaches of Waikiki.

Everyone who knew Lois always knew there was an open door and willing heart to help wherever was needed. Taking in many foster kids as well as helping in her community, there are many lives that have been influenced by the love and care she showed.

A Celebration of Life will be held for Lois at the Sandman Hotel Banquet facility in Abbotsford where immediate family and a very few close friends will gather on May 30, 2026 in a small ceremony that Lois requested. Many thanks to the staff of Mill Lake Seniors Community who cared for her so well in her last few months. We would also like to thank the family and friends who have supported us as we celebrate a life fully lived by the mom and wife that will be dearly missed
