Gerrard (Gerry) Lightle

It’s with great sadness the family announces Gerry’s passing on November 8, 2022 at the age of 69 years after a courageous battle with cancer. He said he had decided to live every day that he had left as positive as possible. That goal he accomplished.

Gerry was born in Moose Jaw, SK to Donald and Pauline Lightle, and got his education there.

He leaves behind his precious dog Bandit; his sisters Donna Dunlop (Richard), Valerie Hornby (Michael); his brother Trevor Lightle (Susan); nieces and nephews; extended family in B.C.; as well as many very special friends and colleagues.

He was predeceased by his grandparents, parents Donald and Pauline Lightle, stepmother Kay Lightle, stepbrother Jim Bulpit, stepsister Bev Sellers, one niece and one step-nephew.

Gerry has had a few occupations in his lifetime. During his middle years of school, he actually caddied at one of the Moose Jaw golf courses. He worked as a labourer in Grande Cache AB, where he had his first accident…it was on a motorcycle. He followed his father’s occupation as an engineer for CP Rail.

He always loved numbers and finance which led him to his current business of being a financial planner. In this he excelled! It has been told to us many times all of his clients got 110% of his knowledge and time. When not working his other passions took over. He loved walking Bandit, playing and watching golf, watching baseball (a game he played as a youngster), he bowled in earlier years, and has been known to shoot a mean game of pool.

Gerry had a great sense of humor (unique to himself), was very kind and considerate, wanting to help all the time. He was known to be opinionated at times (a Lightle trait, apparently).

He gained many great friends through all the aspects of his life and will be greatly missed.

A Celebration of Life will be held at the St Martin de Porres Parish located on 4720 Castle Road, Regina, SK S4S 4X1 on June 10th, 2023, from 2:30pm to 4:30pm.

Gerry was one of my closest friends over the last forty years. The game of golf brought us together, but our friendship spanned much more than that. We were more like brothers than friends, and that’s why I feel like I’ve lost a member of my family. But I know Gerry has gone to a better place, one that has gorgeous golf courses, with no wind and every hole is a dogleg left!! I’ll see you on the other side my friend!!

Gerry was one of a kind. Will never forget that grin on his face, he could always make me smile even if having a bad day. My dog Luna and I met Gerry and Bandit at the 13th Avenue Dog Park in Regina probably 10 yrs ago. Eventually on our walks, it came to light that he was a Financial Planner, and as my husband and I would find out, a line of work he excelled at! I also found out how very kind and caring he could be when my husband became critically ill over a 7 yr period and subsequently passed in 2018. Gerry was so helpful in 2020, giving advice on the sale of our Regina home and then on my condo purchase in Calgary and was so pleased I could continue retain his financial services in Alberta. Gerry, life will never be the same without you, you will be greatly missed, until we meet again on the other side one day.

Gerry was a client of mine for over a 5.5-year span - I was his SaskWorks Venture Fund rep while he was a financial planner. I also knew Gerry from the golf course. In each interaction I had with him, he always had at least one impressively good question for me about the fund or the financial markets - Gerry liked to challenge me in a way that was welcomed. He treated me with a great level of respect in our business interactions and with respect and kindness everywhere else we saw each other. He was a good man. He will be remembered and missed.

Gerry worked in the H&A office all the years I worked there - and continued after my retirement. Gerry was noted for his golf, his dedication to his profession and his superb ethics. I am so sorry to hear about Gerry's passing. I knew him since he played little league all the way into his years working for CPR. I met up with him later after his move to Regina. Throughout all the years he was great to be around. His humor was legendary...however it was an acquired taste. He will be missed.

I met Gerry in the late 80s when I played golf and lived in Regina. We played in many a competition together and went on a few great golfing road trips. I always had a lot of laughs with him. Especially when he changed his putting grip four times in one season. Putting with his eyes closed inside 10ft took the cake. I am grateful that last year after Gerry was diagnosed and going through his treatments, we were able to play one more time in Saskatchewan. He remained pretty positive throughout the whole ordeal, and we talked about the inevitable. I was glad I was able to say goodbye to him ultimately and appropriately on a golf course after a great few days together. He will be missed Hit ‘em straight up there Gerry

I met Gerry in the late 80’s at the Regina Golf Club. He was humorous, a sports fan and somewhat opinionated. He was also a pretty good golfer but, most importantly, a good friend. We played many rounds of golf and shared many, many laughs. I feel fortunate to have played my final round with him on Canada Day at the Wascana Country Club. He wasn’t feeling his best but, we all managed to enjoy the day. He will be missed and mentioned in upcoming conversations by many people, including me. Rest In Peace, my friend!89
